Jacob's POV.
Mid-March

It was a quarter after 9 in the morning and I was sitting outside the counselors office waiting for my name to be called. I've sat outside this office multiple times. For fights, poor grades, behavioral issues and again more fights. This time however, I graduate in a few months so that meant big plans, also known as, college.

Students were talking about college applications, scholarships, projects and capstone. I haven't even thought about any of them. I had more important matters on my mind. Ares Denaro

Since the run in with Mr. Torelli, I've been with Cane. He's been teaching me how to shoot at one of his warehouses that's a good drive from here. We've gone hunting, since apparently that's how you get better with aiming. He tells me I'm a natural, but eh, it's not as hard as I thought it would be.

I scroll on my phone attempting to ignore the girl beside me who's been trying to get my attention for the last 7 minutes.

"Oh my gosh I swearrr we've been waiting forever, right?"

I don't say a word.

"Wait are you a freshman?"

Are you? Cus why tf are you talking to me??

I sigh annoyingly and continue to scroll through my phone mindlessly. Why hasn't Anaya texted me back?

"You're shy that's okay"

I roll my eyes and nearly jump out of my seat when I hear my name get called.

Thank God...

"Good morning Mr. Finley, do you know why you're in my office so early this morning?" Ms. Faraday asked while arranging the files and setting them down beside her.

"College stuff?" I answer lowly.

"Well Jacob "College stuff" is sort of correct" she replies with a chuckle.

"You're currently passing all of your classes. Big jump from the last 2 terms. What's different?" She implored.

I shrugged, when really I knew..

It was her. She's been keeping me consistent when it came studying. Even when Anaya just came over to chill, she'd find a moment to pull out a damn book.

"Okay, well, anyways I love to see it! Any thoughts on what you want to pursue? You haven't participated in any sports since middle school and you haven't joined any clubs." She eyed me while skimming through my file. Ms. Faraday always had this upbeat fake energy about her. Like she makes you think she's on your side, but really she doesn't give a fuck.

"Yeah I was thinking maybe engineering. Seems cool."

"Engineering? Interesting choice..." she trails off then adds, "considering you got a D in Physics the prior term but you did pretty well in AP Chem. B-."
