Chapter 17: Passing the Baton

Akina POV:

I fluttered my eyes open, only to be met by a blinding light from the ceiling. I squinted my eyes and slowly woke up, my vision then slowly adjusted and I saw that I was in a hospital room? I looked to my side and saw Kai and Emi already awake, "Good morning sleeping beauty." Emi joked as she closes the book she was reading

"How long were we out?" I asked

"Not "we" it's "you"." Kai said

"Eh?"

"You were asleep for more than a day after the match." Kai explained "Emi and I woke up almost immediately after our injuries were taken care of."

"According to the doctor, turns out we also may or may not have broken some of our ribs when we fell down after Outei's Grid Omega...Kai sustained a major ankle injury, you and I too but it wasn't that severe..." Emi explained "In fact you and I sustained an injury to the rib more than an ankle injury."

"....They didn't win, didn't they?" I said

"Yeah...Yue-san told us what happened when we were conscious" Emi said

"I see..." I said "You two don't need to explain it to me...it's alright."

"A week from now on...It will be the finals...Raimon and Outei will go against each other and from what I heard, Raimon got a new player and that is Haizaki Ryouhei..." Kai said "They are actually in a training camp as we talk."

"Training camp? Just before their final game?" I chuckled "Kinda reminds you when we were in Raimon, right, Emi?"

"You're right." she smiled

Just then our hospital door opened and it revealed to be Seidouzan, their eyes grew wide upon seeing me awake and almost immediately I was attacked with hugs and noise."

"Senpai!"

"Akina-san!"

"Akina-sensei!"

"Akina-senpai!!!"

"Hey! How come you guys didn't react this way when I woke up?!" Kai exclaimed

"We've been with you for so long so, nah." Ahin said which knocked Kai out with an invisible arrow to his chest "Plus, Akina-senpai and Akemi-senpai are our idols." Double kill to Kai

"They even treat us to restaurants!" Triple Kill to Kai

"And also they cook better than Captain." Savage Kill to Kai!

"ENOUGH!!!" Kai said annoyed but happy that his teammates/juniors are happy

We all laughed which annoyed him more but eventually, he joined in the laughter.

After laughing, Kai then asked, "So what will we do now?"

"Well, I think it is time to really pass down the mantle." I smiled as I look at Athena, Mizuno, and Akira

"Mikado Athena, you are now officially the Empress." I smiled

"Takahashi Mizuno, you are now officially the Jack of Trades." Akemi smiled

"And Endou Akira, you are now officially the Jill of Trades." Kai said

"HAI!!" the three said in unison "We will do our best!!"

"You already did." I smiled "You proved to us that you are worthy of your titles, and as for you five..." I turned my gaze to the other 5

"You are officially the Knights of the Empress, Jack and Jill of all Trades!"

"Eh?!"

"Really?!"

"I ain't dreaming am I?!!"

"This is not a dream you lot." Kai chuckled "It's a hundred percent real."

"Now, don't abuse those titles, am I clear?" I said sternly

"Hai!!" they all said as they stood straight

"Good. Now this calls for some celebration, yeah?" I chuckled "Let's celebrate!"

All of a sudden the door burst open at the same time was yelled at,

"NO! You are forbidden to do any extra curricular activities for now! So don't even think about it!"

"G-Gouenji Shuuya?!!"

"Kidou Yuuto is here too?!!"

"Oh...Yo...?" I greeted as a sweat dropped from my forehead

"Doctor's orders, Akina. You are to stay in hospital for a bit and then you can be discharged." Shuuya said

I pouted a bit, "Oh man~ I was even looking forward to celebrating of us three," I gestured to Kai and Emi "Passing down the baton to those three." I continued gesturing to Athena, Akira, and Mizuno

"Still no!"

"Dang it!"
