"My name is Lexi," I told him, hoping there was fire in my eyes. No way we were getting back to the same routine. There was no way in hell I was allowing him back into my life again, not after what happened all those years ago. No fucking way.
He let go of my arm suddenly, like he suddenly realized something. I took that chance to run away, hoping he sees the symbolism. I'm not only running away from his grasp; I'm also running away from his life. It scares me. I can't stay in it for too long. It brings back too many memories. Too many joyful, painful, hurtful, and ecstatic memories that will forever stay in my heart, no matter how much I try to push them away.
He was just too important to forget. Too important to let go of.
I found Lyla by a tree watching Daniel and me go our seperate ways. I felt a warmth behind my back, and I knew that Daniel was watching me leave.
"What was that about?" Lyla asked as soon as I got to her. "I think he's interested in you..."
I shook my head. "No, trust me. He's far from interested."
"But are you interested?" she asked cautiously, and I felt a sudden urge to slap her arm. Sure, I wouldn't mind to call Daniel mine, if it wasn't for our history, or the fact that he was Biggest Asshole On Earth.
"No, Lyla," I replied, hoping she would drop it. The last thing I need is to think of Daniel in a romantic way. Again.
She shrugged and curled her lip. "Don't yell at me, but I could see the chemistry between you. It was hot over there. It was just fire, fire, fire."
I bit my lip. "Please, don't say that ever again." I found Nate talking to a few girls by the parking lot, and I waited for them to leave. They didn't. After five whole minutes, I couldn't stand waiting for him any longer so I walked over to him and said, "Come on, Nate, we have a doctor appointment in ten."
Nate raised an eyebrow. "What?" he asked. "Doctor appointment?"
The girl's started gushing. "Oh my god, Nate. What happened to you, Nate? Is my little Natey sick? I'll help you, Nate."
I put on my pouting face. "Aw, didn't you girl's hear?" I leaned closer to one of them and put my palm up to "block" the sound, when really everyone could hear it. I whispered, "He got an STD this summer."
Nate started blabbering nonsense, to keep the girl's closer to him, but it didn't work. The girl's had a horrified look on their faces as they slowly disappeared. Well, more like ran off to the other side of the world, but hey, who cares. They're gone.
I put my pouting face back on. "It breaks my heart, Nate, to see you like this." I started laughing
He shook his head in annoyance and frustration. "You have a five second head start before I come and snap your head, Alex."
I started to run when I heard a deep voice behind me. I whirled around. "I don't like liars, Alex. I thought your name was Lexi?"
Daniel's POV:
There are things about Alex that just make you want to stare and never look away. Maybe it's the way her long brown (almost black) hair cascades down her back, or the way her eyes crinkle in the edges when she smiles, or the way her whole face lights up when she's something interesting. Every expression, every movement, every word was just a whole new experience everytime I see it.
And to be honest, it annoyed me. No girl should have this kind of power over me. And Alex was no exception.
I wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for the bet.
**Flashback**
Just after Alex had told me off, Ethan had come up to me and patted my back. "She looks like a hard one, man."
I shrugged off his hand. I'm done with her. I'm done with Alex. "Forget it, man, she's not worth anyone's time."
Ethan suddenly stepped in front of me and a put a hand out. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Man. She's hot, beautiful, and has an attitude. What's not to go for? And I also bet she's good at--"
"Off. Limits. Ethan." I enunciated every syllable.
"So you're going for her?" Ethan asked, a smug smile on his face. When he saw my hesitant expression, he threw in. "Fine, I'll give you my Jimi Hendrix autographed album. The whole shebang."
"Deal," I said automatically. "Even though, it technically is mine. I gave it to you for the bet with that other girl."
**End Flashback**
