SOULLESS

Prologue

A group of friends were walking through a forest after school.
There was a guy among them who mostly remained silent whatever the gang chatted about.
He was walking on with his absent mind which is full of thoughts about nonsensical things that won't matter to anyone except him. But when he was occupied by one of those thoughts, he stumbled and plunged into a pit. Nobody heard a sound and walked on like nothing happened because they sometimes forget his existence.
He felt like his whole body was caught up on a vacuum cleaner and his body distorted but he felt no pain at all. Then he blacked out, feeling visions of strange geometrical patterns that moved and intertwined, finally the vision was over and he felt himself landing on a ground in a thud hurting his knee.
He rubbed his knee and looked at where he was.
He was at a subway station below a beautiful golden tree, and before him was a pair of eyes looking at him.
The eyes looked at him intently like it was expecting him.
The eyes asked a question to the boy.
He was confused, he's thinking about how he came here and how he left his gang of friends.
But the eyes demanded and he realized it was his turn to speak up, which is to answer the question.
The boy contemplated his choices and decided what he's gonna say.
He tried to open his mouth to speak but he was able to answer without even opening his mouth.
Upon hearing the irksome lie again, the eyes became furious.
The boy was confused about how a pair of carefree eyes moments ago was turning furious for no reason.
And burned every bit of his body with its fury.
The boy screamed from the pain and went to the deepest pits of agony.
"I came here to test a human's ability to speak truth, a virtue revered by my kind. I am a celestial observer, tasked by the cosmos to understand the depths of human beings. You have failed this test, dear boy. You shall now face the consequences in a realm where the weight of your lies shall crush your soul with each passing moment," the eyes declared with a voice that echoed through the vast expanse of the underground station.

The eyes blinked and that's the only last thing he remembered about his past.
