It had been 4 years since Cottonmouth had been defeated, and nothing else horrible had happened. Cricket didn't expect that to change today.
But it did.
In the middle of the night, Cricket was awoken by a loud thud outside her and Blue's door. Blinking, she nudged Blue awake, who was curled up, entwined with her. As Cricket's husband started to wake up, there was a pounding at the door.
The two dragons stiffened with fear. Cricket curled protectively around her egg instinctively.
Slowly, she and Blue rose from their bed and walked down the hall, past Bumblebee's room and past the kitchen, to the door, which had been pounded on several more times. Blue squeezed Cricket's talon reassuringly, though she was sure he was just as terrified as she was. After a few more pounds, Blue and Cricket tensed as the door fell to the ground.
And standing in the doorway, was Ex-Queen Wasp.
Cricket and Blue screamed and whirled around, starting to run down the hall.
"Not so fast, little dragons."
And then Cricket heard Blue cry out, but it abruptly cut off. That could only mean one thing. Cricket didn't dare turn around, because she knew if she did, she wouldn't be able to move, and Wasp would have her, and she couldn't let that happen because she still had two dragonets to save. Cricket ran as fast as she could towards her and Blue's room. She grabbed Bumblebee's old harness and shoved the egg inside it. Then she ran towards Bumblebee's room. Her daughter was already sitting straight up, her eys wide with fear. "Run!" Cricket cried, "Out the window! Go!" She frantically shoved Bumblebee out the open window. Bumblebee rapidly flapped her wings her wings as she jumped out the window, with Cricket following. The 4-year-old dragonet panted, trying desperately to keep up with her mother and escape Wasp. Cricket dived down, scooped up Bumblebee in her talons, and placed her on her neck. Cricket felt a talon brush her tail and kicked backward as had as she could, really hoping she hadn't hit Blue. She looked down. They were flying over the thickest part of the LeafSilk kingdom. Maybe...
Cricket folded her wings back and dived down, stopping at the last second ane then diving into the trees again. She ran through the forest, hearing another crash behind her. Cricket skidded to a halt, knowing Wadp would gind her if she moved. She could feel Bumblebee trembling.
After what felt like centuries, she heard Wasp hiss, "Leave them. The continents will all be mine soon enough."
