Blair's POV

My alarm went off at nine and I groaned. I rolled out of bed and stalked into the bathroom to shower, flipping Adrian off as he chuckled. I quickly showered before getting ready for my second day of rotations. I got dressed and packed my stuff. I left around 10:45 and stopped at Starbucks before heading to the hospital. I grabbed my Brewers lanyard with my badge and put it on. The day seemed to drag on and around six, I saw Christain walking toward the nurses' station with a Chipotle bag.

"My savior," I chuckle.

He smiles and looks around.

"Got time for a bite?"

"Sure. Pam, I'm taking a break," I tell my supervisor.

She nods and I lead Christian to the cafeteria. We sit in the corner and he hands me my food.

"How was the game," I ask.

"Good. We won 4-3."

"That's good."

I notice a bruise on his elbow and I look at him.

"What's that?"

"Oh, I got hit in the elbow during the game the other day," he says.

I nod and take a bite. We finish our food and I throw out the bag. Christian walks me back to the nurses' station and pulls me in for a hug.

"Wanna make this a weekly thing," he asks.

"Maybe."

"I'll bring you Chipotle again next week."

"Sounds good."

He pulls away and our fingers linger for a minute before he leaves. I sit at the computer and redo my ponytail.

"Was that Christian Yelich," Pam asks me.

"It was. I'm not entirely sure what we have going on though," I reply.

"Well, seeing as I've been married for almost thirty years, I know what it looks like when a man is in love and that's what I saw when he walked in."

"I told him my rotations weren't supposed to start until the first week of April and when I found out I started this week, I thought he would be upset."

"Blair, let me tell you something. That boy is madly in love with you. I could practically see it in his eyes and the way he walked."

"It hasn't even been twenty days since we first met."

"And what happened then?"

"It was the day of the first spring training game and we ran into each other because we were both running late to the pre-game meeting."

"What does your heart tell you?"

"My mind is telling me it's too soon but my heart is telling me to go for it."

"Listen to your heart."

She smiles at me and walks off. The rest of the night drags on and I leave just before midnight. I walk into the apartment and see Adrian talking with Christian.

"Shouldn't you be on the way to Mesa and you sleeping for your game tomorrow," I ask them.

"Blair, it's your mother," Adrian says.

"What?"

"Heart attack."

"Adrian, no."

My breath shakes and Christian rushes over to hold me before I collapse to the floor. He moves me to the couch and I sob into his chest. He rubs my back and I sob for a few more minutes before pulling away.

"Your dad said he couldn't get ahold of you so he called me," Adrian explains.

I pull my phone from my pocket and see that it's dead.

"When did he call," I ask.

"A few minutes before you got home."

He rubs my shoulder and grabs his bag.

"I'll be back next Friday."

I nod and he leaves. I rest my hands on my lap and Christian squeezes my shoulder.

"Can I borrow your phone? I need to call Pam to see if I can take a few days to head to Milwaukee."

"Yeah. Here."

He hands me his phone and I call Pam.

"Hello?"

"Pam? It's Blair."

"Is everything alright, honey?"

"Uh, I need a few days off. A week at most. I have to fly home for a family emergency."

"I can see what I can do. Sweetheart, is everything alright?"

"Yeah. I should be back early next week."

"Alright, dear. Be safe."

"Thanks."

I hang up and hand Christian his phone.

"Thanks," I whisper.

"Of course. Do you want me to come with you?"

"No. You need to stay here for the games. This is your first year as a Brewer. You need to show them you're serious."

"Craig will understand."

"I don't want you getting in trouble."

"I'll be fine. I want to be there for you."

"Talk to the coaches tomorrow when you go in. Text me when you have an answer and I'll book the flight."

He nods and grabs my hands, kissing them. He wipes my tears and pulls me into his arms as I sob. He rubs my back and I play with the drawstrings of his hoodie.

"Do you want me to stay the night," he asks softly.

"Please? I'm not trying to do anything rash before I go."

"Yeah. I just need to run to my place and grab some stuff."

"Don't bother. I have some stuff from an old boyfriend you can borrow for the night."

He nods and presses a kiss on my head. He pulls me into his lap and wraps his arms around me tightly.

"No matter what happens, I'm here for you," he whispers.

I nod and nuzzle my face in his neck. I sit up and take my hair down.

"I need to get out of these scrubs," I mutter.

"You tired?"

"Very. I need to get my phone plugged in so I know if Pam can give me a few days to at least go and be with my dad."

"How long has it been since you saw your mom last?"

"Christmas, but we talked on my birthday last month."

"Well, at least it wasn't a long time."

"Thankful for small favors."

He wipes a few stray tears and I sigh.

"Wanna go to bed?"

"Please."

I stand up and head to my room. Christian follows me and I hand him some clothes from my last boyfriend.

"These should fit," I tell him.

"Thanks."

I grab my clothes and walk into the bathroom to change. I walk back out and see him sitting on my bed. I sit next to him and lean into his side as he wraps his arm around me. He kisses my head and I intertwine our fingers together. We climb under the sheets and I plug my phone in before lying my head on his chest. He plays with my hair and I fall asleep a few minutes later.
