'Ugh... My head...'

My eyes slowly open, finding myself in blackness. I was no longer in my room and I got on the grip of knowing that I was somewhere in oblivion. I was lying on a floor of black air and nothing was in my sights for miles. I was able to heave myself onto my feet. Still, there was nothing. This had to be unreal, this had to be a vision. ...A dream.

I could feel my heartbeat in my head, as with every pulse was a wave of severe pain. I could hear the quiet whispers of voices in the darkness, and the uncomfortable presence that approached me was unwelcoming. I could sense its arrival, and it was coming fast. With every pain that my head recieved, I felt it inch closer and closer. A voice urgently rang in the back of my head saying the same word over and over again.

 'Run.'

I feel my heart begin to race, as I step forward to run. The whispers of the unknown grew in volume. They were getting closer, ringing sharply in my ears. I forced my hands over my ears to silence the sudden uproar. I could feel myself running faster and my breaths turned fast and short. The dark presence was advancing, catching up to me. I was trapped in this nightmare and I needed to find a way out of it.

My skin suddenly turned ice cold, and I soon slammed into something in front of me. I felt my skull shake as I came in contact, and I knelt onto the ground. The world around me was blurring, slowly leaving vision. I forced myself back up, everything spinning around me. With what was left of my conscious, I began to bash my fist continually on the barrier blocking me from running. But, a sudden yet familiar sensation took over. It was the unwelcoming presence hovering over me. The whispers followed, and they loudly sounded. I was surrounded by evil that I couldn't see. I shrunk against the wall, frantic. I didn't know what to do or where I was, and I had no weapons to use. My world was no longer spinning; I was one-hundred percent conscious.

I looked downward, to find myself fading away. I jump and my eyes widen. This has to be a dream, right? I can't just fade out of thin air! To my dismay, the feeling was too real. I couldn't even hear myself think due to the whispers now invading my mind. My legs were beginning to numb, for half of them had disappeared. All of sudden, everything froze. The dead silence was terrifying, and I felt the coldness crawl along my skin.

Long minutes passed. Everything around me was unresponsive. Trying to move forward, I was held back onto the barrier behind me. Pressure was pinning my arms to the wall, holding me down. I was immobilized. The dark then lunged at me, and took me under. I was now fading, trying to cry for help. I tried to fight back, but my enemy was invisible. I couldn't stop what was happening, I was disappearing. I hear myself let out a scream, as the dark consumes what was left of me. It echoes throughout the black oblivion, and a twisted laugh follows.

My eyes snap open, as I hear myself shout. Breathing hard, I look at my surrounding to find myself back in my room in Skyworld. It was dark, except for the dim light lowly shining from the window. I sat myself up and threw my legs over the side of my bed. I stared at the ground for several seconds. As I was trying to comprehend what had happened, I heard footsteps approaching at a moderate pace. My heart jumped and began to fasten its beat.

Lady Palutena barged in, worry expressed on her face. I felt my heart hop, but it eased when I knew it was only Lady Palutena. I sighed in relief.

"Pit? Are you alright?" she questioned. She walked over towards where I was sitting and examined me up and down for any signs of injury.

"I'm fine... Just had a bad dream," I respond, trying to shake it off. Lady Palutena came and sat next to me. She placed a hand on my shoulder, her facial now serious rather than worry.

"Do you want to tell me? I'm here if you need someone, Pit. I always am."I shake my head and place it in my hands.

"Lady Palutena... I would tell you, but its just too much for me to think about right now," I reply. I feel myself begin to slightly shake as I started thinking about it. Lady Palutena nodded, then faintly showed a smile.

"When you're ready, you can always tell me. But, I want you to know that everything is going to be alright, Pit. You're safe. Nothing is going is hurt you."I smiled. The feeling of comfort overcame my senses.

"Thanks, Lady Palutena. I know I can always count on you," I respond, grateful. She gets up and affectionately ruffles my hair.

"If you can, try to get some sleep. I need you to train the centurions tomorrow, but let's take it one day at a time," she explained. I slowly nodas she stands up.

"I'm sorry for waking you up," I bow my head, "but thank you. For everything." She stood by the doors of my room.

"No need to say sorry, Pit. I'm just glad you're alright," she said. Before she left, she revealed one last smile. This reassured me that I would be okay. Lady Palutena had a way of comforting me, even when I felt the lowest of the low. Her footsteps sounded down the hall until they were no longer heard. I take a deep breath and lie back down on my bed. My eyes remained open and I stared at the ceiling, the horrific dream replaying in my mind.

Never again that night did I sleep.
