It's the day before Midsummer, which means lots of preparations together with my family. My family and the Camerons have very important roles when it comes to Midsummer, and it's probably the most important celebration every year. Therefore, it's crucial that everything goes exactly as planned, or else my dad will be furious. Last year went well, but the year before that was a bit chaotic, especially when it was the same year I found out about my ex Tom cheating, and my dad was angry with me for weeks after that just because I refused to go.

This year, I don't want to go either, but I know there's no point in refusing since my dad is too determined. Besides, Rose has spent an incredible amount of money on my and Rafe's outfits.

Right now, I'm downstairs in the living room ironing my dress, but not just mine, also my brother's suit. I don't know why I got that task, but probably because my brother is too lazy to do it himself. It always ends up being me doing all the work for him every time.

"They look so nice," my mom says, who has also come into the living room. "I'm really looking forward to seeing you both in these outfits tomorrow."

I give my mom a small smile, even though I'm not really excited about tomorrow at all. I know Rafe will hate it as much as I do. But still, there's something that makes me a little happy to be with Rafe again. After everything we've been through together, we've actually had quite a bit of fun together.

"Who is Nathan going with?" I ask my mom.

"Lily," she says, smiling.

Lily. She's the unpleasant girl from the hotel, and we both had physics together, and it wasn't fun. Why her? It doesn't make anything better.

"Why?" I ask.

"Because that's how it turned out. It's good for your brother to go with someone like her," my mom says, leaving the living room before I can complain more, which makes me sigh loudly instead and continue ironing the clothes.

Not only will this day be long with all the preparation, but tomorrow as well, but there's nothing to do about it. When these days are over, at least you can breathe out.

The sound of a door opening and closing is heard, but it's not something I think much about. Not until my mom comes back into the living room, but this time with Rafe. What are they doing together? And Rafe never comes to us unless it's for Nathan.

"Adeline, would you be so kind as to come with me and Rafe to buy some groceries we promised to bring for tomorrow?" asks my mom, but I know it's not a question. It's something I have to do.

"Sure," I say, putting down the iron and unplugging it before following my mom and Rafe out of our house. Rafe walks beside me all the time, even as we head towards the car, and we both sit in the backseat while my mom sits in the front, ready to drive.

"Why are you coming along of all people?" I ask Rafe quietly.

"Had nothing better to do," says Rafe, shrugging.

"Then you'll have to spend more time with me," I say, giving him a sarcastic smile, which he responds to with a similar smile.

"I'm so glad you're starting to enjoy hanging out more now. I just knew it would work out in the end. Your dads are so proud, you should know," says my mom as she drives the car. If only she knew what my dad has done to me in the past few days.

"Yeah, they're probably very proud," Rafe says, exhaling, and you can clearly hear in his voice that he didn't mean what he said.

The rest of the car ride is silent, but it only takes a few minutes to get there. I don't even know why we took the car since the grocery store is very close, but probably so we don't have to carry all the groceries.
