It's party time. This time without Sarah. I'm not even sure if she's going anymore. We decided a few days ago that we would go together, but now I'm unsure because of the argument we had. And I don't know why I'm still going, but Rafe said we could go together since I don't really know who else I can go with.

I've just finished doing my makeup, and my outfit is on, which is a cherry red dress I love. I grab my phone and hurry down the stairs, where I'm greeted by my mom watching TV on the couch.

"Where are you going this late?" Mom asks, looking at the clock, which is only 8:00 right now, but I know what she means by late.

"Meeting friends," I say and smile.

"Anyone specific?" she asks, raising an eyebrow. "You're so dressed up. It's not just a regular gathering, is it?"

At first, I think about saying Sarah, but she probably won't be there. "I'm going on a date with Rafe," I say quickly before I change my mind. There is a reason why I'm dressed up and why he's meeting me so we can go together to Topper's where the party is.

My mom smiles happily. "How fun. Have a good time then."

I smile at my mom and open the front door to realize that Rafe is already standing there, waiting. He's wearing a light blue Ralph Lauren sweater with light pants, and I must say he looks very good in his outfit.

"What a coincidence," he says, smiling when he sees me.

"Indeed," I say and smile back.

We turn away from my house and start our little walk to Topper's house, which is just a few houses away, so it's not too far.

"Excited?" Rafe asks as we start walking.

"A little," I say. "But it's nice to think about something else since I'm not on good terms with Sarah."

"Yeah, she probably won't be there anyway. She was in her room with loud music before I left," Rafe says.

We continue walking for a few more minutes until we reach the big house I recognize as the Thorntons' house. Loud music can be heard all the way to the street, and I guess their neighbors won't be happy. Rafe puts his arm around my waist as we enter the house where there are people everywhere. Many look at us as we enter. Some with smiles, and some with disgusted looks. Some say hi, and some don't.

Heartless by The Weeknd is playing from the speakers at such a high volume that you can't hear your own thoughts. Rafe leads me through the crowd until we reach the tables where there are lots of drinks. I don't plan on getting too drunk today even though I could use it to get my mind off things, but I don't want to take any risks of getting too drunk today. I don't know what could happen when I'm at a party alone with Rafe.

"Aren't you having any?" Rafe asks, holding out a drink to me.

"I don't want to drink too much," I say.

"We can share," Rafe says, setting down the drink he offered me and holding out his drink, which I accept and take a sip from before Rafe takes the drink and drinks from it too.

Topper and Kelce come up to us. Both give Rafe their usual bro hug before smiling at me. "No Sarah today?" Topper asks.

"No, she wasn't in the mood," Rafe says.

"Well, that's disappointing," Topper says, then turns to me. "But I'm glad you two could make it here."

"We've got plenty of different kinds of drinks here, so feel free to indulge," Kelce says, turning towards the table with lots of drinks.
