July 12
I'm with Sarah in her backyard. Ward allows me to be at their place as long as Sarah ensures I stay away from Rafe. Although Sarah doesn't seem to mind if I'm with Rafe.
"So there's a party tonight, are you planning to go or not?" Sarah asks as we're sunbathing on the loungers.
"I'm not sure, haven't decided yet," I say, putting on my sunglasses.
"You should go. It might be good for you to have something else to think about. Get really drunk and live life, you know," Sarah says, winking.
"Maybe," I say, shrugging.
"At least think about it," Sarah says before closing her eyes and letting the sun rays burn against her skin.
Maybe she's right? A party would really be needed right now. And it's been a while. There have been some parties in recent weeks, but I've declined most of them. I don't know what it is with me and this summer, not being in the party mood. But maybe it's time for me to go tonight?
__
It's evening, and I'm in Sarah's room. Topper is picking us up in ten minutes. We're listening to Taylor Swift while finishing up our makeup. I'm wearing a light purple tight dress that I absolutely love, and Sarah has a similar one but in light pink.
"Topper says he's outside now," Sarah says, turning off the music playing in the background on her speaker. "Rafe is also riding with us, but he's already outside. So that dad doesn't suspect anything."
"Perfect," I say, smiling before following Sarah down the long corridor and down the long stairs leading to the hall. Once downstairs and on our way to the front door, Ward is walking towards us. He looks up when he sees us in our party clothes.
"Where are you ladies headed?" he asks with a suspicious look.
"Girls' night at Kiara's," Sarah says, smiling.
"Well, you better be telling the truth," Ward says, still suspicious. "Have you seen Rafe?" When he asks, he looks extra at me.
"No, he left a while ago. I think he said something about meeting Kelce," Sarah says with a fake smile. Lucky she's good at lying.
"Okay, too bad for him then," Ward says, shrugging before walking away.
"Thank goodness he didn't catch us," Sarah whispers as we walk out of the house towards Topper's car.
Rafe is already in the back seat when I open the door and sit next to him while Sarah sits up front next to Topper.
Rafe leans forward and gives me a kiss on the lips, making me smile warmly at him. All these little things he's started doing make me so happy to be with someone as amazing as him.
"Ew, not in here, please," Sarah says, sighing loudly.
"You do it with Topper all the time, so let us do it at least once," Rafe irritably retorts to his sister.
It doesn't take long to drive to Kelce's, and we arrive quickly. I don't know how they plan for us to get home if we all get drunk. But I guess we'll have to walk home or something. I'm certainly not riding home with a drunk Topper. I barely trust Topper when he's sober, so I don't want to think about how he is when he's drunk.
When we leave the car, Rafe comes up to me and puts his arm around my waist. He nudges me towards him so that we walk close to each other as if he almost wants to show that I'm his and no one else's. But I'm not complaining. We have to refute the rumors that we're not dating anymore somehow.
