Wei Wuxian regained his consciousness a while later, disoriented but strangely, cozy. He opened his eyes blearily to meet a pair of golden ones staring down at him. "Lan Zhan?"
Lan Wangji flinched visibly at the use of his birth name coming out from Wei Wuxian's lips and his gaze got a little more intense than a second ago.
Wei Wuxian immediately realized that he shouldn't have called him that. "Ah... Sorry. I.." He bit his lip in guilt, cursing at his own stupidity. Of course he is offended. Calling him by his birth name when we've never spoke to each other yet? Blasphemy. Rude. Impudent. But damn, he smells so good! Really good On closer look, Lan Zhan is... extremely handsome. And his eyelashes is long... Wait... Why am I seeing him from this angle? Isn't his face... too close?
And it finally dawned to him that he was still in Lan Wangji's embrace. On his lap, to be exact. His head was pressed close to Lan Wangji's chest, his body was almost fully covered by Lan Wangji's wide sleeves with one arm hook around his shoulder and another across his lateral, his palm planted firmly on his back. His eyes widened comically and blood rushed to his cheeks. What the hell am I doing on his lap? And why is he... cradling me?
He tried to get up, pushing away the warm hand but found his efforts futile; Lan Wangji wouldn't budge an inch. "Um... Lan Er Gongzi, can you... let go of me?" He requested, feeling embarrassed at being hold as though he was some kind of a distressed maiden.
"No." Lan Wangji responded, his was so low that he sounded like he was almost growling. His grip around Wei Wuxian was firm. Almost too firm that it might leave bruises.
"Huh? Why not?" That was when Wei Wuxian noticed the sandalwood scent radiating from Lan Wangji intensified in the air as if the alpha was exuding a warning. Not to him. But to the others in the room.
...Others? Oh.. Shit...
Wei Wuxian instantly covered his face with his hands. He felt like he wanted to dig a hole and bury himself from the mortification he felt. He could feel people staring at them seated together in this kind of position. It wasn't nearly as suggestive in his standard but still, quite a scandalous one, if he counted Nie Huaisang's standard. Regardless, his entire body had probably turned beetroot red from embarrassment. He couldn't even bring himself to look at who might be there witnessing this spectacle.
"Wangji, let Wei Gongzi go." He heard someone said, trying to persuade Lan Wangji. He recognized Lan Xichen's voice.
Great. Just great. Zewu-jun is here. He probably think that I am sullying his brother's honor.
"No one will take him away. He's not in danger." Lan Xichen spoke, his tone was gentle and careful.
Eh? Take me away? Danger?
Wei Wuxian turned his head to see Lan Xichen sitting on his knees about 3 chi* away and in a further distance, Jiang Cheng looking like he was properly worried and at the same time, furious although the anger was not directed to him. There were a few older men in Gusu Lan attire standing at the doorway, watching them with concern layered with something that was more familiar to Wei Wuxian, abhorrence. Especially on Lan Qiren's face. Wei Wuxian was ticked off by their critical gazes. Those kind of contemptuous eyes sure did brought up some of his bad memories on the surface. He couldn't help but to tense up.
That reaction of his was enough to spur Lan Wangji to actually growl audibly and glare daggers at whoever presented in the room. His brother included. The growling came with a package of a burst of that angry sandalwood scent and a wave of spiritual energy. Some elders actually stepped back a few steps to Wei Wuxian's amusement, while Jiang Cheng tried to stand his ground. His already soured face got murkier than the stagnant fog at the burial mound. To add to that, he was clenching his fists, jaws, teeth and possibly every muscles in his body (his butt probably included too) as he dared to snarl back at Lan Wangji.
