Lan Xichen glanced at his brother who was moving like a well-oiled machine, eliminating water ghouls one after another like he was on a rampage. It was more than obvious to him that his little brother was not in a good mood.
This morning after they checked on the seal to make sure that it was working properly, Lan Wangji suggested that they should eliminate the remaining ghouls that still hiding within the river canals to prevent them from harming the townsfolks before they return to Cloud Recesses. Lan Xichen agreed to it since Lan Wangji had a point and they both didn't allow Wei Wuxian to join in the hunt since he had yet to recover his spiritual energy fully. Besides, the numbers of ghouls had dwindled down to a manageable range after the waterborne abyss was sealed and the two of them could handle those themselves. That was what they have been doing for the past few hours.
Wei Wuxian didn't argue with the decision and took his time strolling about the town, visiting stalls after stalls, recuperating his energy by eating snacks. As the head disciple of Yunmeng Jiang, he currently had enough money to last him for at least half a year if he was thrifty enough. But it had been a while since he had financial freedom to get what he wanted, so he let himself go for a bit. He even sneakily purchased some Empire Smile because God, he missed the taste of alcohol! He needed this desperately now that he thinks about it. He quickly hid the jars in his Qiankun pouch, knowing from experience that Lan Wangji is still a rigid stickler to those nonsense rules of Gusu Lan (he would drink them in the secrecy of his room later). As he was wandering around, he saw a shop that sells musical instruments at the corner which reminded him of the his trusty instrument he once owned. He never parted with Chenqing this long and he kind of missed it. He couldn't help himself from walking in and stopped to look at the section where flutes were, his eyes laid on one particular darker brown one.
"Young Master has good eyes. This Dizi right here was crafted by a master craftsman," The shopkeeper proudly introduced the instrument to Wei Wuxian as he offered it to him for inspection. "It can produce round and mellow tones, great for lyrical composition."
Wei Wuxian hummed appreciatively at the description. He weighed the instrument in his hand for a while. It almost the same length and width to the ghostly flute. Its weight felt perfect to his hand and the curves of the holes was the right fit for his fingers. It looked sturdy and durable too. He took a minute more to assess its properties and he decided that it wasn't bad. "How much it is?" He asked tentatively. While no other flute there could surpass Chenqing superiority in any way, he could use other flute just fine. (Of course, he could make it himself, but he wondered how a professionally made and tuned flute would sound like.)
"5 coins." The shopkeeper said, splaying his fingers.
"Aiyo, Laoban, you sure it is 5 coins?" Wei Wuxian flashed his smile charmingly, "You should throw me a decoration tassel with a few other freebies if you think it would be worth that much money."
The shopkeeper chuckled (in professionalism), "Young Master, this Qudi is one of the finest among the ones I sell here. It is made of a hundred years old bamboo and suitable for cultivation purposes. It is hard enough to withstand surge of Qis without breaking apart, I assure you."
"Hmmm... a hundred years old, huh?" Wei Wuxian repeated, giving the Dizi a few good taps. He poured in a little of his spiritual energy into it to test how it would fare and the instrument vibrated slightly in his palm. "Then, just a free tassel?" He bargained again with a sweet smile, satisfied with how the flute took in his Qi well.
The shopkeeper couldn't win against the omega's charm and gave in, "Fine. Young Master may pick any of these tassels here." He showed the selection of tassels which included many different colors and shapes.
Wei Wuxian beamed victoriously and chose a red tassel with a small white rabbit shape bead on it which looked cute in his eyes. His eyes, however, was still glued to another similar looking one, but in light blue color. "Laoban, how about throwing this one in too?" His mouth moved shamelessly to request before he could stop it.
