At first, Gon thought you were a star that descended from the infinite above.
He and Killua had decided to go stargazing after a day of running around his hometown when they noticed a flash in the sky. There you had fallen; blazing, leaving a trail of smoke and dust in your wake. It wasn't too rare for shooting stars appear but Gon had thought you to have been especially bright.
He'd read about them before (in picture books), about pieces of meteors breaking off and crashing into their world. But for a piece to land at Whale Island? Wow! He couldn't wait to tell this to Aunt Mito!
However, the closer you got, the more Gon started to realize that you were in fact not a star- but rather a human girl. A human girl that was very much on fire.
...Cool!
He smiled excitedly, just about to point it out to his silver haired friend seated next to him. However as his brain processed what he had just saw, Gon realized with a jolt that... humans usually weren't supposed to be on fire, were they?
Well shit.
Gon's smile dropped nervously, "Killua-"
Apparently the cat eyed boy had registered that fact around the same time he had because they both bolted upwards in newfound urgency.
The said boy frowned, seemingly more annoyed that his time relaxing with his best friend was disturbed rather than concerned for the girl that just landed into the ocean.
"Yeah I saw, let's hurry then."
.
They arrived at the bay just in time to see you collide into the glittering waters with an explosion of vapors.
Besides him, Killua swore lightly under his breath and scowled, "Gon, you go and I'll stay here to assist when you get her on shore." He nodded without hesitation and dashed into the water.
Waves nipped at his body and he shivered slightly.
Not from the cold but rather an eerie feeling tugging at the back of his head telling him to stay away.
Something was wrong, wrong, wrong.
Gon thinned out his lips, choosing to ignore his gut due to the urgent situation, and immediately started kicking towards the spot he saw you land in. There was an uncomfortable stinging in his eyes from the salt water as he pushed further underwater but the adrenaline kept him going.
When he was sure that he had arrived in the right spot, Gon let his eyes adjust to the darkness. And it wasn't long before he noticed a blurry figure in the water. Eyes fully adjusted, he let out a light gasp, air bubbles frantically floating towards the surface.
Blue tinted moonlight that dipped beneath the waves caressed your skin in such a way that left him mesmerized. There were several scratches and burn marks that littered your body, but nothing too severe from what he could see. And-
Oh- you were still drowning.
Snapping out of his daze, he reached his arms towards your figure in order to pull you towards him. However, as soon as Gon's skin made contact with yours, a tiny electric shock pulsed through him and he froze. The foreign sensation felt suffocating but just as pleasurable- like something he would want to be exposed to over and over again. Almost like... a drug.
An addiction.
Gon let his eyes flicker closed for a moment as he recollected himself. He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion- god just what was happening to him?
But as lost as he was, there was one thing he was absolutely sure of:
There was no time to spare and he needed to get you to shore. Fast.
.
The first thing Killua noticed was the difference in Gon's demeanor.
He waded the shore, delicately carrying your limp body in his arms. Nothing too strange except for the fact that this was Gon. Not the first one that comes to mind when thinking of the word 'delicate'.
However the most ridiculous thing was the way he kept looking at your face with that weird look in his eyes, as if he were scared the moment he turned away you would vanish. C'mon now, the girl was unconscious!
Killua frowned in annoyance.
It was definitely small enough that most people probably wouldn't be able to notice, but this was his best friend you were talking about- his only friend.
"Hey," Killua sighed, feeling obligated to help out in some way, "want me to carry her instead? Since you're wet and stuff."
Instead of answering though, Gon only brushed past him with a tiny smile on his face.
"Nah, I got it. Let's bring her back to Aunt Mito's house so she can rest."
The whole time he spoke, he had yet to spare Killua a single glance.
The silver haired boy raised an eyebrow at his strange actions, annoyance circulating his system. But he said nothing in retaliation as his friend trekked uphill towards the house.
It would be fine, he thought, it's just a girl. Once you were healed up or whatever everything would be back to normal.
Besides, he could always just get rid of you if you proved to be a problem.
Gon would choose him over you anyway.
Right?
Not edited and super short- I'll look through it when I have free time.
literally just typed this out because I finally had some inspo but school rlly has been draining me lately... don't expect an update too soon (maybe!)
