In the secluded depths of Optimus Prime's medical bay, where the hum of machinery provided a constant lullaby, two weary warriors sought solace in each other's embrace. Ratchet, the stoic and seasoned medic, and Wheeljack, the eccentric and brilliant inventor, had been entangled in a tentative bond for nearly a year.

As the golden glow of the energon sunset bathed the infirmary, Ratchet reached out to caress Wheeljack's scarred face. A gentle touch that evoked a pang of familiar terror within the inventor. His optics flickered, the warmth of his mate's affection replaced by a chilling dread.

Memories of past tormentors surged forth, their words and actions burned into his processor like searing acid. Ratchet's thoughtful gesture became a trigger, unleashing a torrent of fear and revulsion. Before he realized it, he lashed out, shoving Ratchet away with trembling hands.

'Don't touch me!' he screamed, his voice a hoarse whisper.

Ratchet stumbled backward, his heart heavy with confusion and pain. 'Wheeljack, what's wrong?' he implored, his optics dimmed with concern.

Tears streamed down Wheeljack's faceplates as he curled into a fetal position, his body trembling violently. 'It's you,' he sobbed, 'You're like them.'

Horrified, Ratchet sat next to him, gently placing a servo on his mate's shoulder. 'No, Wheeljack. I'm not like them. I love you.'

But his words fell on deaf audio receptors. Wheeljack was trapped in a nightmare of his own making, his mind spiraling downward into a pit of despair. Ratchet watched helplessly as his lover slipped further and further away, consumed by the demons of his past.

As the night wore on, Ratchet kept a silent vigil by Wheeljack's side. He knew that healing would take time, and he vowed to be patient and understanding. When dawn finally broke, Wheeljack's body relaxed, and his trembling subsided. He looked up at Ratchet, his optics filled with both shame and vulnerability.

'I'm sorry, Ratchet,' he whispered, 'I didn't mean to hurt you.'

Ratchet smiled sadly. 'It's okay, Wheeljack. I understand.'

Together, they began the difficult journey of healing. Ratchet helped Wheeljack confront his past traumas, while Wheeljack slowly learned to trust again. And as time passed, the bond between them grew stronger, forged in the crucible of both pain and redemption.
