After several minutes of loud conversation, most of the boys had left the homestead and started exploring. Felix, Hugo and Theo waited for Elliott to exit the building before pulling him aside. He was clearly a few years younger than the three of them, Felix guessed 13 or 14. They all now stood around the back of the homestead, in front of a small, unlit room with no windows and a barred door, clearly a prison cell.

"what do you guys want with me?" the scrawny boy asked in a trembling voice.

"we're not gonna hurt you but you need to talk." Hugo asserted.

"what about?"

"why did you have that weird look on your face during the gathering?" Theo chimed in

"what weird face?"

"look kid, playing dumb ain't gonna work on us. We saw you being freaky so you better fess up quick" Hugo demanded.

"It was talking to me" Elliott muttered. A sinking feeling filled Felix's mind.

"who was talking to you?" Felix asked

"The maze."

After he said this, Elliot justs slumped down against the wall and buried his head in his hands. the other boys took that as a sign to leave.

"what a weirdo" Hugo retorted quietly as they walked away.

The boys talked as they explored the glade. Theodore believed what Elliott had said and Hugo wasnt having any of it. He said the boy was just freaking out because of the situation and clearly had mental issues. Felix didnt know what to think. It certainly wouldnt be the weirdest thing that'd happened today, but it seemed so impossible. How could a maze talk? What maze was he even talking about? everything about that kid rubbed Felix the wrong way.
