Destiny wakes up this morning feeling how she usually felt, Ass. She just graduated and her original plan was to leave Paris to study in America and go to Yale. That's what her father wanted but when he passed away a year ago, plans changed and she no longer felt like Yale was the place to be.
Destiny, Mateo her little brother, and her mom are moving to Spain for a change of scenery. Her mom seems like she has everything planned and her goals set she looks like she's moved on, and that annoys Destiny. She can't accept the fact that her mom can be happy without her father. Today Destiny and her mom are packing their last things before they move.
Destiny's POV:
This morning I woke up early to help my mom pack the rest of the furniture while my brother took a nap before we had to leave. After about an hour in, I get tired of moving things around and I took a break. I open my phone and hopped on Instagram just to see what's going on.
I hear a knock on my front door and my best friend Leilani walks in. She's been my best friend since the first day of 2nd grade.
Flashback: 2nd grade.
"Hey everyone my name is Miss Kimberly and I'm going to be your teacher this year," the teacher says "Could everybody please introduce themselves and tell everyone what your favorite thing to do is."
" Hey, my name is Jake My favorite thing to do is ride my bike" I hear from the random ass kid the teacher pointed at. " My name is Lisa. My favorite thing to do is read books about princesses." says this weird-looking girl.
I completely zoned out bc my fat ass was thinking about what I was going to eat when I got home, I suddenly felt everybody's gaze on me. I looked around and Miss Kimberly was smiling at me waiting for an answer. She noticed that I zoned out and she asked me for my name.
" Oh hi, my name is Destiny. My favorite thing to do is watch movies or play football with my dad.
I said smiling to myself, remembering the movie nights me and dad have every Friday afternoon. (Dad was always gone because of business trips, so he always at least tries to spend time with me and Mom on Fridays, sometimes Saturdays if the workload wasn't that big)
" Your favorite thing to do is play football? Football is for boys, you girls should just stick to make up and looking pretty, yet again that might be difficult for u" says Jadon, giving me a disgusting look implying that I'm ugly asf. The whole class erupts in laughter. The comment really hurt my feelings. The teacher tried to get everyone to quiet down but didn't succeed.
" HEY! Miss Kimberly said quiet down!" the whole class went silent. " Jadon yor being rude and y'all need to grow up fr that shi was childish as fuck and not funny whatsoever."
The class was so quiet nobody even dared to say a word bc we all knew she would lash out again. "Now that everyone is quiet, Miss Kimberly you can carry on with the rest of the introductions." Leilani finishes off.
Leilani was confident and really smart even for a 2nd grader. All the kids were scared of her and thought she was a bully.
I admired her for standing up for me.
Flashback over.:
Leilani and I had been great friends since the day she stood up for me. She's definitely gonna be the girl I miss the most when I leave. We've been through a lot together, I was there for her when her man cheated on her twice then, had a kid with the girl. She was there for me when my dad died, she was there when I was struggling with school, she's just always been there yk. She's always been my number one, well after my dad of course but still, she makes me happy and I can't imagine being fucking 1000km or whatever away from her.
" hey desty," Leilani says breaking the silence. Before she could say another word I wrapped my arm around her and gave her the biggest hug ever. She's gangster so she don't cry but I immediately felt warm tears run down my face.
We stay like that for a bit till I hear a knock on the door. My mom walks in to tell me we have to leave in thirty minutes and finish packing. Leilani and I look at each other knowing that these thirty minutes are gonna be the longest, depressing minutes ever.
I finish packing and I look at the clock and there are ten minutes left. " Leilani promise me we'll never lose contact, no matter what." Leilani grabs my hand and for the very first time, she has a tear on her face. That made me very sad.
"Desty why would u even make me promise like that, you know I wouldn't do that to you." she says looking like a tomato tryna hold back her tears. " if anything I should be asking you to promise me that because you're so cool, funny and smart you're going to make so many friends so quickly, I'm going to have nobody. Please don't forget me destiny." They break into tears
" I have to go Leilani, I'll call you when I get 'home' " I chuckle at myself for almost considering any other place but Leilani 'home'.
Pov over:
Leilani stood on their porch watching Destiny and her family put their last box in the trunk . Her mom gets in the car with her brother and closes the door, Before Destiny gets in the car she runs up to Leilani and gives her one last hug before she leaves. They stayed in a tight hug for so long that her mom hooted her horn twice. As they leg go of each other and part ways destiny whispers in Leilani's ear
" I promise I'll never forget you Leilani, I love you" She gives her a reassuring look then she finally gets in the car and drives off to the airport.
