The night was nothing but an endless series of dark thoughts and cold whispers of the untamed land. Rest did not come easy every unfamiliar noise was just another menacing spectator in the lurking in the shadows. studying my every move.
As the first light of dawn pierced through the woods, it was not warmth that greeted me, but steely resolve, today was not the day to be consumed by anger or dwell on the betrayal of my brothers. Today was about survival and it demanded my full attention and strength, I set out at daybreak leaving the comfort of my makeshift shelter behind. The forest was alive in the morning filled with chirping from songbirds a stark contrast to the silence of my grudging acceptance. My stomach rumbled, an echoing reminder that I needed to find food if I was going to keep my strength.
Armed with my axe and my survival skills stowed upon me from my ancestors, I foraged and hunted moving with purpose. The land showed me no favor, its bounty guarded behind thorns and the fleet-footed game., yet the hunger fueled my desire, gathering sinew, wood, and stones I was able to make a snare, it was a simple tool but I trusted it in its design, hidden in the over-growth my trap awaits baited with Barries from a bush just nearby. I sat afar and waited.
For what felt like ages, the trap went off catching myself a hare, As I held the hare, I felt a connection to the animated life of the forest an integral piece of the ecosystem I was becoming part of. With respect to the cycle of life that I had now engaged in.
The untamed land was now my provider, I was laying down roots onto the story of the land changing myself from Erik the forsaken to Erik the master of his own faith, I settled next to my fire ready to prepare my feast but something felt off like I was being watched from a distance. It hit me that not only am I a hunter but I'm also the hunted and I needed more than just my axe to survive.
