"Zip me up." I tell Katie. She's my 'assistant' for this show but mainly all she does is give me my equipment beforehand. I grab my regulator and clip it around me like a belt. For this they spent a lot of money on my stuff. They don't want to risk the Mesosaurus biting into a tank filled air, killing me and harming her so they gave me this really expensive regulator that is pretty small but it holds about half an hour worth of air. I put on my water shoes and shake out my nerves. This is always my scariest show. This thing is huge and it's underwater and anything can happen. I climb up the ladder and wait for my queue.
"And let's give a warm welcome to one of our main handlers, the amazing and quite sassy, Hailey!!!!" The crowd cheers and I walk out on the edge of the glass.
"Hey guys enjoying the show?" They cheer even louder. "Alright well as you know the Mesosaurus is very dangerous. It has over 89 teeth and it- Whoa!" I 'slip' off the edge and fall in the water. I splash down and everyone screams. I tread water for a bit looking seriously scared and then I start laughing.
"It's alright everyone. Let's take a bit of a closer look at her. Hang on." I dive down putting my regulator in my mouth and my goggles over my eyes. Their seats lower and I can see their faces. All in panic and on the edge. I swim up to the glass and wave. Lot of people today. They all frantically point behind me and I turn around. Meso is coming right for me. I quickly swim up and it misses swimming around the glass. I swim up to it and scratch it's side. She loves that. I think it's just a universal spot for animals. I hear muffled talking over the speaker and it's time for the shark. Okay let's do this. This is my least favorite part. And it's not like she's trained or anything. It's usually different and she is very unpredictable. The only thing I can count on from her is the she'll launch herself out of the water for that shark. They lift the chairs back up and I get a good grip on her. She starts swimming around in circles getting deeper and deeper. Ugh I hate the pressure. She launches herself up and out of the water. I hang on and once she's up I quickly wave goodbye to the crowd and dive off. Jesus Christ I hate that part. The whole crowd gets splashed and everyone is excited. Time for me to go. They open up my little hatch on the side and I swim inside shutting it behind me. The room empties the water and I take the regulator out of my mouth. The other door opens and I step out. The problem with that show is it makes her seem not so dangerous. This isn't the dolphin show. It's a prehistoric carnivorous whale.
"That was great!" Katie exclaims.
"Awesome. You know I wish I could do the show then go rest because that is tiring as hell."
"You only swam for fifteen minutes though." She unzips me and takes my regulator. I go behind the curtain and take a quick shower before changing.
"You try swimming and diving off of a man-eating dinosaur." I snap. She shuts up and I smile. Good now that that's settled. I pull back on my shorts and flannel and she hands me my other stuff. "I gotta go help a sick dinosaur so I trust you can clean all this up." She scoffs and I smile. "Thanks." I walk out of there leaving her mad. Yep I'm nice.
I leave the area and wait by my car for the boys. I've tried to talk to Masrani about this show but he says it's good for business. Even though every time I go in there I could die. But unlike Claire he wants to see happy faces while Claire looks for dollar signs. I wonder what Owen is doing? With Claire. I'm not overly fond of her. She's too snooty. Those suits and heels people never understand the danger of what they do. All of these dinosaurs are animals but they treat them like a laboratory experiment. They don't know they came out of a tube. And these people, our 'customers,' a dinosaur is never going to be enough for them. Always has to be something bigger. Scarier. These things haven't been alive for millions of years and they look at them like zoo animals. And Hoskins. Ugh, he just sees what he wants to see. He doesn't learn anything or listen. They're not weapons. They're animals. Send a raptor into enemy fire. Yell at them too much and they will turn on you. Idiots.
