That was around six months ago. Claire wasn't too happy to lose her assistant so quickly, but Masrani was ecstatic to employ Jurassic World's newest Head Animal Handler. My parents were more or less overwhelmed by my decision to drop out, but when I showed them my first pay stub they got over it pretty quickly.

My day to day responsibilities start before the park opens and ends hours after it closes. So far, I've worked with every animal ranging from our petting zoo full of baby herbivores to some our more vicious carnivores. A few, specifically or T. Rex are a bit more problematic than others. She's not a pack animal. Her species is known for its alpha behavior and isolation. Her initial reaction to me was not overtly friendly like the others, so I'm no longer allowed in there.

Whatever this thing is with me and the animals, it still can't be explained. The head geneticist, Dr. Wu can't, or at least won't explain it to me. My parents also seem to be unable to describe the instinctual bonds I create with prehistoric animals. But that doesn't stop others from pushing the limits to see if they possess the 'gift.' We've had several meetings after incidents occurred with curious employees testing their bonds with some of the animals. Everyone was reminded that if they were injured or even killed, no legal action could be taken because of their negligence. That dissuaded them.

As for Owen and I, we're parents! I'm the loving mother to my four teenagers and he's the stepdad putting in work to encourage their acceptance of him. When I can I spend my time there helping him with the raptors. But that's about the extent of it. I find myself running around the park all day every day leaving no time for socializing or tequila.

And finally, the head man in my life, Masrani. He was like a kid at christmas when he saw how I could interact with the animals. He started sprouting ideas to the marketing department, dubbing me The Dinosaur Whisperer. They even created art for me to look at and approve. All of which displayed me riding the dinosaurs like a horse. I shut all of them down. With my abilities, I have some authority. I told him I would be a handler, not a circus performer and that I wouldn't subject these animals to that kind of humiliation. He reluctantly agreed but said the Mesosaurus is his one exception. That was the one I was dreading the most. I'm completely alone and no one would be able to help me in time before she swallows me. But I smile and do my job anyway.

There's a knock on my door as I finishing braiding my hair. I got upgraded to a bigger suite since there aren't any houses available but I don't mind too much. There's far less mosquitos.

I open the door and smile as he leans against the door frame.

"Hi Owen."

"Hi Hailey." He smirks. I let him inside as I sit to put my boots on.

"What do you need?" I ask. He stands in front of me, lifting my braids up like the Wendy's logo.

"I'm just letting you know I'm doing another run with our kids today and was wondering if you wanted to watch." He crosses the two braids above my lip giving me a mustache.

"Yeah I'll be there. What kind of a mother would I be if I wasn't there supporting my kids?" I say trying to ignore my braided mustache. "But you could've just called." I remind him, tying my laces.

He shrugs, dropping the braids and lying down on my couch. "I know, but I figured I'd stretch my legs a little this morning." He stretches his arms and legs out. "God, this is soft."

I roll my eyes, grabbing my badge and sticking it in my pocket. "Should I leave you two alone, or?" I ask, gesturing to the way he's embracing my cushions.

He eyes me. "Jealous?" He asks cheekily.

"Oh, yeah." I nod. I extend my arm out to him and he grabs it as I help him up.
