I opened one eye and then the other. Squinting through the light that was blaring from my window I saw the outline of my mum. Her hands placed squarely on her hips with a glare that made me give a shudder.
"Mum. It's. A. Sunday!" I yawn pushing my head further into my pillow, luckily the dream hadn’t resurfaced but I still felt as if I had barley slept. I felt my eyes shut again but instead of drifting off to sleep I had my bedcovers pulled off completely. The absence of warmth caused me to curl up into a ball but in the process I sent a clearly annoyed look at my mother.
"No, it's Monday! We let you sleep all of Sunday as you refused to awaken from your" cue bunny marks on her part "'beauty sleep’ and now you need to get your butt out of bed, and no I am not giving you your covers back" With that she left, still carrying my duvet under one arm. I watched her retreating figure shut the door behind her; at least she had some decency. Instead of attempting to sleep again which may only result in having a heavily cooled glass of water poured over my body I stretched and pulled myself out of bed.
After my shower I gathered together my hideous uniform and started to get ready, the compulsory school skirt had a huge waist band that came up past my belly button and I couldn’t move in the restricting crisp white shirt. Carefully I rolled up my shirt sleeves and pulled on my jumper. I looked in the mirror and attempted to fix the madness that was my hair, only then did I notice the absence of my tie, blazer and one shoe. Gosh mum was going to be mad if my missing items made us late again.
Half an hour later and I had managed to loose and find and loose again nearly everything I needed for the day. At the moment Dad was looking for both of my now missing school shoes, Mum was looking for my blazer and Jack was pretending to find my school books but instead was making a film of us rushing around for his very overdue media homework.
"You’re not helping Jack!" I yelled from inside the living room cupboard where I had caught sight of my tie holding up the spare plastic bags.
"Your appalling memory is not MY problem, although it is helping with this" he indicated to the camera and ducks as a sock flies past his head.
I grab my tie and fix it around my neck; I then scratch my head still with no idea about the whereabouts of the majority of my needed items. Seeing my phone resting on the side board I send out an quick message

"EMERGENCY!!!! Gather team there is a mission; we need to find the lost treasure and hurry. Meet at Faiths ASAP xox"
I watch the text send but ignore any replies as I begin my hunt for my missing school books. Sam1 and Georgie are the first to arrive as they live closest. The disapproving looks I received when I opened the door showed me they were not pleased to be here. When Josh and later Sam2 arrived I received the same welcome but with eight people looking we finally found my missing items but the time resulted in Mum having her foot pressed permanently on the accelerator which, I’m sure, meant that she was speeding as drove to school but only in order to get us there before the bell.
"We made it" Georgie gasps as she slumps into tutor having readjusted her school skirt six times between entering the class room and siting down.
"We would have been much faster if you could have left your skirt alone!" Josh mutters from where he was slouched in the seat behind us.
"Oh and don't forget the fact that Faith had all of us round hers looking for school stuff fifteen minutes before the first bell!" Sam2 added from next to Josh. They shouldn’t be so annoyed, they make me do stupid things in the morning as well, like the time we had to write Josh’s essay at six or when Sam1 misplaced her goldfish and need us to put up missing posters. So maybe what I was looking for was on the side the table the whole time but at least we got a lift to school and arrived on time.
"We got a lift didn..." Georgie cut me off mid-sentence by pressing her palm over my mount and letting out a small gasp, in her and Sam1's eyes the most gorgeous guy in the world just walked into the classroom, for Josh's eyes the best potential footballer in the school just walked into the classroom and to me and Sam2s eyes the most stuck up person in the universe just walked into the classroom.
Kallum is an idiot. He is the idiot, but even I can’t deny that he’s pretty good looking. He’s the guy who does the whole slow strutting, swishy fringe thing that loads of guys think is cool. If you have known him as long as we have and seen him enough as we do you soon realize that he wants nothing to do with anything. If you are forced to do group work with him, he will just sit there and shove ear phones into his ears, he never participates in general lessons and is never around after school or at break and lunch and some days he just doesn’t turn up at all.
However to girls like Georgie and Sam1 that makes him completely gorgeous and mysterious, when he turns up for PE according to Josh he is brilliant. They all might as well as wear matching 'we love Kallum' tee-shirts. Not everyone buys it though, people like Sam2 and I who just think he is a complete waste of air. He doesn’t really have any friends in the class but seems to not have the ‘loner’ brand that others would, instead the ground he steps on is worshiped and even some teachers are seen trying to get him to talk in class where they would give up on anyone else. Basically the reactions to Kallum and weird and unfair, it may sound like I care but I really don’t I just don’t like what he does to the people of this school.
The rest of tutor goes in a blur of being told to shut up by an email checking teacher and trying to find mobile signal. (If your reach out the back widow it's five bar according to Sam2).The lessons go pretty much like always, learning about famous Characters and Writers. This year we are studying a book about some so called ‘evil’ stepmother and ‘ugly’ stepsisters, not only does it sound like the pathetic story one of my parents would wright but come on if I had one of those names as mine I would be pretty annoyed too but maybe not force someone to sleep in a unlit fire. That’s plain weird. I begin to stare out of the window as the teacher continues to talk in a monotone voice about the dashing prince that is about to save the day and watch the trees sway in the breeze. The school backs onto the forest that I spend my life walking through. I remember my last journey and absentmindedly touch my leg where the claws had grabbed me, when I check this morning there was no scar, although it could have been a dream those eyes just seem to real to have been imagined and the sound of the animal when it grabbed me. No it must have happened. The look of the trees reminds me of the grassy clearing I found myself in during my little amount of sleep, that boy I dreamt up was the definition of perfect.
At break I looked at everyone, trying to find a similarity to the person I saw in my dream but there was no hope. By lunch I had given up staring at various members of the student body and just talked to the others while picking at the sandwich Sam1 had mistakenly brought and just given to me. Georgie was ranting about something that had happened on some social network so we just groaned and cooed in all the right places. It is a fool- proof technique for when you have no idea what is being discussed.
"Anyway…” Josh begins to make a reliving subject change “Do we have any homework due tomorrow?" I put down the food and shrug in his direction
"Yes it's” Georgie stops midsentence and points at the large windows that show the car-park outside of the school “oh my gosh Kallum is getting out of that silver car!"
"I didn't know that was a lesson?!" Sam2 sniggers as we all turn to look at where Georgie was pointing. Sure enough there he was getting out of a car and a nice one mind. There were some others from different years climbing out too; all laughing and cringingly slapping each other on the back in those weird man hug things. I look at the faces to see who I could name and wondering about the connections between the odd collection of people.
I do a double take
No way
No goshing way
Really? Friends with Kallum?
There leaning out of the car I caught sight of messy blonde hair and piercing green eyes. I stared at the boy as he laughed along with the people around him, suddenly he turned his head in the direction of the school but I must of imagined him catch my eye.
Why does he have to be real?
