It begins with Dedede sitting on Steven's bed flipping through channels on Steven's tv until he saw Steven walking past him and looks into a pile of clothes.
(peering through a pile of laundry) "Where are you? Tsk tsk tsk. You're a mess, Steven." Steven said
"What are you doing?" Dedede asked
"I'm looking for something, but I can't find it." Steven said
"They should be around somewhere." Dedede said (starts helping Steven find his pants)
(runs towards the kitchen, holding a full of shards) "I know I had eight..." (searching) "Hey, Steven, Dedede, have you guys seen a anywhere? It's very important." Pearl said
(stands up from looking under the living room table while covering his eyes) "You said I'm not allowed near any of the gems you and the others collect or look at so I don't get any ideas." Dedede said
"No, have you seen my pants?" (reveals that he is wearing just a shirt and underwear) "They're also very important." Steven said
"I'm serious, Steven." (starts explaining) "These Shards have a powerful partial consciousness that has been harnessed by Gems throughout history in order to create-" Pearl started saying
(disengages from Pearl's explanation and thinks to himself) "They weren't in the kitchen either... Under the bed! No wait, I looked there too. And then Pearl walked in..." Steven started saying
(explaining in the background) "-semi-sentient drone soldiers with the capacity to follow basic orders. Gems once created an army of these drones, but found their obedience waned as the shards overdeveloped inside their uniforms and turned on their commanders. You see, any shard imprinted by any sort of container-" Pearl continued
(looks at Pearl and gasps to himself) "Pearl! Oh jeez, she's really explaining something... I can't just start listening now, I'd be lost! ... Just like my pants..." Steven said
"-could become a monster. That's why it's very, very important it's kept away from any kind of garment..." Pearl continued
(A pair of pants is seen running past Steven and Pearl in the background while brushing against Dedede who uncovered his eyes to see what it was only to cover them again in panic from seeing the gem shards.)
"If you see it, bring it to me, right away. I'm going to check in town." Pearl said (leaves the house through the front door for Dedede to uncover his eyes again)
(shouts at Pearl) "For my pants? ...I guess I'll keep looking here." (hears Dedede scream from seeing his pants run by and turns to see it) "That's unusual!" (chases after it with Dedede's help) "Come on, we used to be friends! We used to go everywhere together!" (pounces on them with Dedede landing on top of them) "Gotcha now, pants!" (gets out from under Dedede and puts them on) "I wear the pants in this relationship!" (pants wriggling) "What's gotten into you?" Steven asked
"This is crazy! huh?" (sees something in Steven's pocket and takes it out revealing a Gem shard, pants cease) "It's a... thingie. Is this Pearl's shard thingy?" (The shard glows and tugs on Dedede's robe, which he quickly pulls away in panic. He then grabs a sock nearby and puts the shard inside.) "Ha! Now who's smart?" Dedede asked (The sock animates and repeatedly smacks Dedede in the face.)
"Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, stop!" (The sock compels to his command as Dedede rubbed his face in pain.) "Oh... Thanks! we gotta get it to Pearl." Steven said (takes the sock and places it in his and zips it up)
