The Bradford Special

The Big Secret

It's been a few months now since I found out Lucy was pregnant. We're at her ob/gyn appointment and today's the day we find out if little Bradford is a boy or a girl. We're back in the room with the ultrasound machine and Lucy's getting situated. Luckily nobody has figured out she was pregnant yet. We had a big plan for tonight. The doctor is doing the ultrasound and I see her give a confused look. I look at Lucy and back to the doctor.
"What's wrong," I ask. "Is the baby okay?"
The doctor looks at both of us. "I don't know how I didn't catch this before now," she says. "The babies are alright." Me and Lucy look at each other. "Yes babies is what I said. Ms. Chen. Mr. Bradford. You're having twins. Would you like to know the genders."
"Yes please," we both say.
The doc smiles. "Baby A is a girl. Baby B is a boy."
Lucy and I start crying and smiling and hugging each other. We get done with the rest of the appointment and head to work. When we're at the station I head to Lopez's desk and ask her to meet me in my office.
"What," she snarks. "You don't ask people to go to your office unless it's important and personal."
I hand her an envelope. It says "instructions for worlds best godmother/godfather." She looks at it and looks back up and me crying but still having that Lopez smile.
"TIMOTHY," she chirps. "Oh my gosh. You and Lucy are expecting ?"
I laugh. "Yep. And you and Wesley were our chosen godparents. You're the first person we have told. Which means you also get the very daunting task at setting up the major announcement in my backyard. Grey's already approved you for OT for your time off and you and Wesley can head there and set up. Do it to YOUR liking. But there are instructions. Open it."
She opens the envelope and shrieks. "Oh holy hell Bradford. Twins?" She smiles and hugs me. "Okay invites go to Nyla and James, John and Bailey, Grey and Luna, Definitely no Smitty, Juarez, and Thorsen. Got it. Heading there now Papa." She gives me another quick hug and heads out.
Now. This isn't just the announcement of the twins. This is my big plan to surprise Lucy. I'm also off work today but had to come in so Lucy didn't think something was up. I'm supposed to meet Nolan and Thorsen at a jewelers to help me pick out the perfect ring, necklace and earrings.

After we do some digging I find the perfect ring.

Lucy will love this. Thorsen was such an amazing help.

   We head back to my house for the announcement/gender reveal/proposal. Lopez and Wesley have set up such a beautiful gathering. As everyone's coming to the party I gather Lucy and head outside. Everyone's here. Me and Lucy stand outside in front of everyone hand in hand. Wesley and Angela next to us.
   "Hello everyone," I say. "I know you don't realize why you are here but me and Lucy have an announcement for everyone. We are expecting  twins and we already know the gender so not only is this our official pregnancy announcement but it is also out gender reveal. I just want to thank Angela and Wesley our children's godparents for all of their help today"
    Everyone cheers. "I need mom and dad to stand there and me and Wesley will hand you the smoke guns that correspond with each baby."
   Angela hands us the guns. "This is baby a," Wesley says. "On the count of three both of you shoot the gun."
  We smile and nod. "1," everyone yells. "2.3." We pop the guns and it's blue smoke everywhere. We do the same for the second gun. Pink smoke.

  We all gather and talk and I go to the front of the yard. "Can I have everyone's attention," I say. "I have something I've been wanting to do for a very long time. Lucy can you come here."
Lucy walks over to me and I grab her hands in mine. I get down on one knee and pull out the ring. "Lucy Chen. I love you so much. I've known you'd be mine since Grey told me you were my boot. You are beautiful, smart, nurturing, amazing and you are going to be the best damn mother in the world. Will you marry me Lucy?"
   She starts smiling with a tear coming down her cheek. "Tim..." she says. "Yes yes I will!" I put the ring on her finger and we kiss. The rest of the night is history.
