April

Harper once came over to my dorm room limping and wincing. When I asked her what was wrong, worried she'd injured herself playing soccer, she told me, "I got fucked so Goddamn good last night that I am paying for it this morning."

At the time, I didn't really understand what she meant. The sex I had was mild and certainly didn't leave me aching the next day.

But when I wake this morning, I ache.

Every part of me aches and throbs and I wince as I slowly sit up, taking in the old cabin surrounding me. I don't know what time it is, but there's bright sunlight pouring through the gaps in the wooden slats of the structure.

Shakily, I push myself to my feet. Deep inside, between my legs, I am so sore.

Leant beside the wardrobe is a grimy, standing mirror. I limp over to it, grimacing with each stop, and stare at my naked body.

Jesus. I am a mess, My auburn hair is tangled and wild, a leaf and twig stuck into the knots. My neck is red from where Nik bit me, though the wound is already starting to close over somehow. My wrist has puncture holes as well. Bruises litter my body—my hips, my upper arms, my thighs. There are brown and purple teeth marks where Reed bit me on the top of my shoulder.

My hand rises and I graze my fingertips over the sensitive skin on my neck, where Nik's teeth sunk into me. A hot zing of pleasure shoots straight down my stomach and I gasp, feeling myself become wet again. The events of last night play in my mind on a loop, like I'm reliving each overwhelming moment.

There's a screeching sound and I flinch as the door to the cabin is pushed open on rusty hinges.

Reed stands in the doorway, shirtless and in a pair of jeans that are slightly too big for him, so they sit low on his hips.

I don't know what to say. For the first time since I met him, I feel...uncomfortable.

His gaze roams over my body and there is a brief flash of amber. Then he quickly averts his eyes, turning half away from me.

"There's some clothes in the wardrobe," he says, voice low and gravelly. His hands are curled into fists.

Really? After what we did last night, he can't even look at me?

My cheeks warm, I reach for the blanket off the bed and wrap it around my shoulders. I will figure out clothes later.

"Where's Nik?" I ask and see the way Reed's shoulders immediately bind with tension. That shouldn't have been my first question. But waking up alone and naked on a dirty mattress hasn't exactly been the highlight of my week either.

"He's outside, getting water and something for you to eat," Reed replies through gritted teeth.

"Ok."

We both fall silent. I shift uncomfortably, pulling the blanket around myself further.

Reed's expression flickers with pain and he takes a step forward. "April–"

"You're awake," comes Nik's voice. He strides up the front steps to the porch and breezes straight past Reed as though he's not even there, carrying an old, metal cup in his hand that must have been in the cabin and a handful of blueberries. He stops extremely close to me, his arm brushing mine. "Here, drink." He lifts the cup up to my lips and I suddenly realize how parched I am, gulping down the water. "I'll get you more in a minute," he tells me as he lets the blueberries fall into my palm. His fingers ghost over the teeth marks he left on the inside of my wrist and I jerk toward him as another rush of that same heat from before catapults through me.
