Chapter 6 : A Night of Elegance
As the sun dipped below the horizon, signaling the imminent arrival of the grand ball, the halls of Angevin Palace buzzed with activity. Servants hurried to and fro, bearing trays of delicate pastries and shimmering goblets of wine, while the noble guests prepared for the evening's festivities.
In the Aldridge family chambers, Freya found herself surrounded by the familiar hustle and bustle of her household. Her two older brothers, Raymond and Matteo, stood by her side, their expressions a mixture of pride and concern. Raymond, the firstborn, exuded an air of quiet authority, his features marked by the passage of time and responsibility. Matteo, the secondborn, possessed a mischievous glint in his eye, his youthful energy a stark contrast to his brother's solemn demeanor.
"Freya," Raymond began, his voice tinged with brotherly affection, "you know that with your newfound attention from the court, there will be no shortage of suitors vying for your favor. But remember, we will always be here to protect you, no matter what."
Freya nodded solemnly, grateful for her brothers' unwavering support. She knew that navigating the treacherous waters of courtly romance would be no easy feat, but with Raymond and Matteo at her side, she felt fortified against whatever challenges lay ahead.
As they made their way to the grand ballroom, Freya's mother, Vada, intercepted them, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "My dear Freya," she murmured, her voice thick with emotion, "how you've grown into such a beautiful young woman. It seems like only yesterday you were but a child in my arms."
Frodium, the Grand Duke himself, joined them, his presence commanding respect and admiration. With a tender smile, he enveloped Vada in a warm embrace, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. Then, turning his attention to Freya, he placed a hand on her head, his gaze filled with paternal pride. "You look absolutely stunning, my dear," he declared, his voice ringing with affection. "Tonight, the entire kingdom will be in awe of your beauty."
Freya blushed at her father's praise, feeling a swell of gratitude for the love and support of her family. Yet, as her brothers teased her about her resplendent attire, likening her to a warrior ready for battle, she couldn't help but laugh. For in that moment, surrounded by the ones she held dear, Freya knew that she was prepared to face whatever challenges the night may bring.
