There is equality of gender in Teen Wolf. It is shown in this episode when the leader of hunters are female; shown with Allison and when Chris Argent, her father, told her that 'daughters trained to be leaders' and that 'sons are trained to be soldiers'. The Hale pack was also led by Talia Hale and then Laura Hale. Colours are used to create atmosphere and a sense of the stories direction, this is shown with the colour of clothing to emphasise the mind and emotions of 'villains' and 'hero', for example the hunters are shown with full black outfits. This is also shown with Allison Argent who previously wore a light blue shirt and had pink objects around her room, she threw away these objects as she associated them with happier memories of her late Mother; then put on dark clothing while showing her hunter weapons, this highlights the change in her attitude and emotional state. The 'heroes' and 'good' people had bright colour clothes such as green, blue and white. The flashback showing how Matt, the villain, felt like he had a reason to kill these people was blurrier and lighter around the edge of the camera. It is also had him wearing a black shirt and dark blue jeans. Furthermore, when looking in the 'eyes' of the Kanima, it is greener through the eyes of the said beast. When the flashback of Matt 'drowning' it made it seem like it was a deep ocean, with the light coming far above the surface and it became darker to black as he began to drown; it was like it was him dying, the darkness that was wrapping around Matt was like death wrapping around him as he was losing consciousness. When guns are fired in the show, it only shows the gunshots hitting objects, not hitting people, and not seeing who was firing; this shows the violence of the hunters who are seen as 'villains' due to the main 'hero' is a werewolf and therefore the target of the hunters. There was darkness as the hunters came into the scene, creating a sense of menace and showing the fear for the 'heroes' this is also highlighted by the glowing red of Derek and the yellow of Scott's eyes (the main character). There was also flickering lights which reminds watchers that the scene is set in the police station, an official building with human in residence. The light is brighter and softer when featuring the 'heroes' so Scott, Stiles and (for this scene) Derek Hale. A darker light is shown for the faces of Matt, the Kanima and Gerard Argent to emote the feeling of menace. Music is also used at different stages to increase emotion and audience empathy. There is a silence of a scene when Allison is hiding from the Kanima, she is wanting to killing the creature on her own, the silence and lighting of this scene creates suspense. In another scene there is drums beating so when Gerard kills Matt and Peter Hale witnesses the killing it gives a greater feeling of impending doom, emphasising Peter Hale knows that it is only just the beginning.

In this episode, it is mainly about Lydia Martin and her discovering she is a banshee. In Irish Mythology, a banshee is a "woman of the fairies" and in the folklore of Irish and Celtic she will be heard to be mourning "keening" (which is the traditional name for of vocal lambert for the dead) or wailing screaming or lamentation (the passionate expression of grief or sorrow) at night, it was believed to foretell the death of a member of the person who heard this spirit and was believed to warn only families of pure Irish descent. Lydia, in this episode, was wearing a green dress that is colour of Irish. There is also a Celtic five-fold knot. This is a religious symbol found in Celtic culture. It is also known as the Borromean cross, and it represents heaven, faith, spirituality and God. In Celtic is represents God, spiritual, heaven, the universe and passage of time but also associates which protection. There is also Equality in gender in this episode as well shown with Kali (Part of the Alpha pack and is second in command to Deucalion), Allison Argent (leader to the Argent hunters), Darach (the 'villain' who is Jennifer Burke), Cora Hale (younger werewolf sister of Derek Hale) and Lydia Martin. When the darach met the banshee, the camera's made it seem like eyes following the latter. It is almost pitch black, which increases a sense suspense when we find out who is the Darach in this episode. Once again, heroes wear colourful clothing, that are warm and bright, especially the main characters Stiles Stilinski and Scott McCall. Jennifer wears a red blood shirt which indicates danger, blood and evil. When Isaac Lahey and Allison Argent follow her father because they believe he is the darach, they end up in a dark, empty building. The atmosphere created in this building creates suspense and gives a scary, creepy feeling, which is justified when they see a sacrifice being held there; this becomes more so when lighting is dimmed further when they see the second philosopher die. The main villain of this season 3a gave a foreshadowing that she is supernatural, by the wind around her body when she is outside of the recital, and again when she met Derek Hale; walking with the wind following behind her. In the recital, the musicians were in light clothing, such as white or cream, with the lights on; almost like they were angels in a world of devils in this supernatural world.

In the episode of The Divine Move, there is a dim aura around the characters. All of them are wearing red clothes, either shirts, jackets or (with Lydia Martin) lipstick. This can be signifying danger or blood. However, it could be due to the sadness of Allison's death in the previous episode Insatiable. The twins Aiden and Ethan; Aiden wore red clothing while Ethan wears white, which could be seen as foreshadowing to Aiden dying, which he does at the end of the season. Oni's/Ninja's wear dark outfits, almost midnight black with a light shining on their masks making them seem unworldly, unlike when previously when they were Noshika, they have green fireflies eyes, they now appear black, indicating they are without a 'soul'. Oni's makes a noise like a Predator. This is because previously they were controlled by the kitsune – good spirits, but they are now controlled by the dark kitsune the 'nogitsune' – bad spirit. There are many flashbacks which are once again blurry around the edges, like S2E10 Fury with Matt talking about his 'drowning'. The nogitsune uses the face of Stiles Stilinski, causing them both the look dead, but the 'actual' Stiles wears the blue and red checked open shirt, and brightly colour clothes whereas the void Stiles wears only black clothing, showing him being the "villain". There was darkness surrounding him as he went around the hospital searching for Melissa McCall (Scott's mother). His face has a smirk, unchanged when the nurse's blue scrubs clashed with the red blood from the fatal wound that the Oni put there on his order. When they walked through the hospital, it is in slow motion as the void Stiles and the Oni kill everyone in their path. They is more blood that the previous episodes, and there is the slow version of the Bad Moon Rising by Creedance Clearwater revival, again the music is used to create an atmosphere and feeling. The nogitsune feeds on chaos; grief, pain and strife, so by killing he create this and grows stronger. It is a game to the nogitsune seen in the Japanese game Go, which is all about getting all of the territory on the board; police station, hospital, high school and animal clinic. The nogitsune only cares about winning his game, and now he is seen in a possessed body with bandages wrapped around his head which are dirty and yellow, with fangs that are only shown as dark silver and black lips. He also had a 'villains' dark clothes. The episode shows the 'villain' getting stronger and the 'heroes' getting weaker, Stiles dying as the nogitsune grown stronger, it shows bardo (between life and death) which is just an illusion. When the 'heroes' break out of the illusion which the 'divine move' the void Stiles yells "You can kill the Oni, but me. Me! I'm a thousand years old you can't kill me!" which made me think of Klaus Mikealson in the Vampire Diaries S3E13 when he says "I'm the hybrid! I can't be killed!". Even then the Void Stiles is still a fox, and he is bitten by the Alpha. The light of the school hallway becomes brighter just before the Void turns into the ash, indicating the bad had been banished and defeated and the hero's triumph. The episode ends with Mellissa McCall hugging the children and offering care and comfort, she wears a light purple shirt when she is home, which can indicate she is seen as an angel to the teenagers and mother-figure to Stiles.
