CHAPTER FOUR

Dain led them into a tunnel at the end of the alcove in the outer wall. Mage lights flicker on in the sconces as the trio pass and flicker out once they go by. "You're not supposed to be here."

Seren rolled her eyes, "well, she is here, obviously."

"She's supposed to be in the scribe quadrant," he seethes, leading the two girls through the tunnel in the wall.

"Well, I'm not, obviously." Violet also rolls her eyes, sharing a look with Seren as Dain continues to go on. "What the hell happened? Please tell me you did not volunteer for the Riders Quadrant."

"What do you think happened?" Violet challenged as they reached a wrought-iron gate that looks like it was built to keep out a dragon.

He cursed. "Your mother."

"Obviously, her mother." Seren spoke in a dull tone.

"Every Sorrengail is a rider, don't you know?" Violet questions sarcastically.

Dain led them up a set of circular steps, up past the third and second floor, stopping on the third and pushing open another gate.

"This is the second-year floor," He explains quietly. "Which means—"

"We're not supposed to be up here, we know." Violet cuts him off as she tucks in a little closer.

"And what will you say?" Seren rose a brow mockingly. "You were so overcome with lust at first sight and couldn't even wait a second to try and snag two first years into some threesome? as if."

"Ever the ray of sunshine, Ren." He gives a wry smile as they go down a hall.

"Don't call me that," she mutters in distaste.

"You have powers," Violet stated after watching Dain make a twisting motion with his hand to unlock his room once they arrived.

It's not surprising, he's a second-year rider and all riders can perform lesser magic's once their dragons choose to channel their power.

"Don't look so surprised." He rolls his eyes and opens the door, carrying Violets pack as he helps her inside with Seren following.

As soon as she gets a look around, Seren makes an unimpressed noise, "how plain and boring." She crooned dryly.

Dain ignored the comment, instead handing Violet her rucksack. "Do you have any wraps in here?"

"Got them from Major Gillstead," she answered, searching through her bag as Seren took a seat next to her.

"Make yourself at home," Dain grinned from where he leaned back against the closed door.
"As much as I hate that you're here, I have to say it's nice to see your face, Vi." Their eyes met.

"I've missed you." Violet let some vulnerability show.

Seren, sensing some type of tension, quickly grabbed some of the wraps and started wrapping her ankle, wanting to be out of there as soon as possible. "I'm here, too." She muttered, wanting to disappear.
