LAMONTS

Pulling into work an hour later, she gets out of the vehicle, walks into work, and behind the counter. Grabbing an apron, she puts it around her waist, and stocks the bar while she has a conversation with Amelia. Within moments, the air gets dense. Instantly, people stop what they're doing, look at her, and scratch their biceps for a few seconds. As she stands there and watches them, they eventually stop scratching, look down and go about their business. With the dense air leaving, her body pushes forward and pulls downwards, and pressure hits her forehead.

"Did you see that? Everyone scratched their biceps at the same time," Luna says as she looks at Amelia.

"Yes! I saw that! What was that? That was weird."

"I'm not sure what that was. I'll be right back! I'm going to throw the garbage out," Luna says, as she grabs the garbage from under the counter.

"Alright," she says, wiping the counter down.

She walks to the back door, opens it, and walks outside. Seeing a wet sealed cardboard box by the back door, she looks around, throws the garbage out, and sees nobody. As she walks to the box, she kicks it and hears something rattling inside. She bends over, picks it up, puts it under her arm, and instantly remembers the dream.

"Amelia! Come here," she says, as she walks into work and sets it on the bar counter.

"What do you have there?" Amelia asks as she walks to Luna.

"I'm not sure. I found this by the back door. Someone left a package. Is it for you?" she says as she looks at Amelia and then the box.

"No. I haven't ordered anything. Is there a return address?" Amelia asks as she touches the box. Hearing it rattle, and sensing the heaviness, she pushes it a couple of inches down the counter and says, "The cardboard's wet? Open it! What do you think it is?"

"I'm not sure. You open it?" Luna says as she grabs a small knife from the back galley and hands it to Amelia.

"Oh no! You open it. Go ahead," Amelia says as she pushes the knife towards Luna.

"Fine," Luna says as she slices the top of the box. Opening it, she squints her nose, turns her head sideways, and says, "You're not going to believe this!"

"What? What is it?"

"They're doll heads," Luna says, as she grabs a doll by the hair and pulls it out of the box. With it swinging in the air, they stare at it, and Luna says, "There are five more doll heads in the box. They all look like someone we know. This one looks like Victoria."

"It kind of does," Amelia says as she tilts her head to the side and touches the doll head with her left pointy finger. Twirling in the air, Luna places the doll head on the back counter, takes the rest of them out, and places them on the counter. Amelia points to them, and says, "That one looks like Laura. The other ones look like you, Ivory, Kyle, and me."

"That is strange. Who would do that? Do you have any enemies?" Luna says, as she stands back, crosses her arms, and stares at the dolls.

"I'm not sure. Last I knew, I didn't have any enemies. But I will tell you I had a crazy dream the other night. Kyle was in it. He handed me a wet blue and purple cardboard box. The cardboard even ran through my fingers when I was holding it," Luna says as she pokes at the doll that looks like her.

"Really! You had a dream that Kyle handed you a mushy cardboard box. Look! There's even a doll head of him. Do you really believe that he would drop this off here? Why would he do that?" Amelia asks as she picks up the doll head that looks like Kyle and puts it down.

"I'm not sure who did it or why? They put a lot of effort into making them look like us," Luna says, as she picks up a doll by the hair and twirls it in midair. Looking at the head, she says, "This one must be me! If this is Kyle's doing, why would he do this?"

"You don't know if it was him. It was just a dream! Besides, he's your boyfriend. You two live together! Why would he do this?"

"Yeah, okay!" Luna says as she puts the head on the counter.

"I find it hard to believe Kyle would do something like this. Come on! Let's get back to work. Leave the dolls on the counter. They'll blend in with the rest of the gothic décor," Amelia says as she walks away and takes an order.
