KANG JI-A'S POV
He was smiling, that psychopath.
"This is the part when you say 'thank you', you know, for saving your life." Sergeant Kim said, looking at me with a small smile.
"You shot me!"
"You're alive now, no?" He tilted his head.
"Oh, I'm sorry that I didn't come back to life looking like sunshine and rainbows after you shot me." I yelled, bewildered, at the handsome soldier kneeling in front of me.
"They were going to burn your body, do you know that? If that bullet—" he pointed to the bullet next to my left arm.
"-had popped out while those soldiers were carrying your body to the pit, they would have thrown you in there at that very second, despite the fact that you are alive."
"Oh," I mumbled, looking down at the hem of my black tee.
He lifted my chin with his hand and looked me in the eyes. "If that doctor found out you are a neo-human, that would have been the end of it for you."
"What do you mean?" I asked, trying to distract myself from my blushing cheeks.
"Scientists and doctors are using people like you, neo-humans, as test subjects, which could harm you and others if it went wrong." He explained.
So he does care. I thought to myself, tucking my hair behind my ear, thinking I looked cute with the dried blood on my forehead.
"But you didn't need to shoot me like that, my poor ego." I mumbled.
"Here, I've packed you things you might need." He handed me a fully packed khaki backpack.
"You need to leave. You are still a threat."
Those fucking words piss me off. Yeah, no shit, I know what I am.
I stood up, aggressively flinging the bag over my shoulders, and mumbled. "I can control it, you know."
"What was that?" he asked.
"I said I can control it. The monster, I mean." I say a little louder, moving to walk away from him.
He grabs my arm, stopping me. "The others don't know that. I don't know that. You lied for so long you can't possibly expect them to trust you, Ji-a."
"They don't even like me. I'm not saying that I want their tru-"
"I don't think you understand the situation you've put me in, Kang Ji-a." He said, rubbing his wrinkling forehead.
"Then tell me. What shitty situation could I have possibly put you in, Young-ho-ssi." I pleaded.
"There's no time you need to leave, now." He nudged me in the direction of a different exit as he walked away.
