Kang Ji-a walked into the shared room noticing no one was there so she changed into a long-sleeved cropped tee that stopped right above the waist of her cargo pants.
She couldn't feel the hotness that Ye-seul and Sergeant Kim felt when they touched her but she knew it had something to do with when she turned into a monster.
The alarm chimed and Sergeant Tak spoke through the speakers.
"The banishment of the infectee's schedule today has been canceled." He announced as Ji-a took out her dagger because she wanted to see if it would heal or not.
"The infectee was monsterized last night, and the Crow Platoon subdued her. Please do not be alarmed and prepare for the roll call. That'd be all." He finished as Ji-a cut the back of her hand.
She froze as she stared at her hand and the deep cut healed in less than a second. She swallowed a lump in her throat as she tucked the dagger into the waist of her pants.
She walked out of the room to see people already lined up and their cuts were being checked.
"Seriously. We can all sleep safe and sound all thanks to the platoon and all." She heard Seung-wan say to Seok-chan.
"Is this really something to get psyched about?" Seok-chan asked.
"A person died." Seok-chan looked at Seung-wan.
"Uh, it was a monster, not a... not a person, though." Seung-wan chuckled awkwardly and groaned after Seok-chan flicked his cut.
"If this wound heals, you'll end up becoming one of them." He stared at him before telling the other soldier they must go.
As they walked, Seok-chan bumped Ji-a's shoulder and she dropped the half-burned picture. They both knelt to pick it up after Seok-chan apologized.
Seok-chan grabbed Ji-a's hand that had no cut no, no nothing on it. He took a glimpse at the picture that was in the hand he was holding.
"Yah. Where's the cut?" The other soldier looked at Ji-a as she stood up. Seok-chan took her other hand and noticed it had no cuts either.
"Yah , yah, yah, she's infected. SHE'S INFECTED!" Seung-wan shouted and people scrambled away from her.
She yanked her hands out of Seok-chan's grip and turned her head slowly to look at the crowd of people.
They quickly averted their stares away from the dark-haired girl, still wary of her actions. Seok-chan pulled out a knife from his pocket and looked her in the eyes before cutting the back of her hand.
And like expected it healed.
She had no expression on her face but inside she was panicking like hell.
The people screamed and backed away from her, afraid she might turn and kill them all. She looked up at Seok-chan before stuffing the picture in her pocket.
"Sir, we have to report her to Sergeant Kim." The other soldiers said standing behind Seok-chan.
He grabbed her arm and dragged her away from the hallway with people into an empty hallway and as they walked she caught a glimpse of Father Peter who stood up once seeing her being dragged away and she looked away.
They walked into the room and saw Sergeant Kim and Min Seo-jun talking about another soldier who went missing, Yong-seok, who was rumored to be dating someone among the survivors who was sick, and during their mission, he went out looking for medicine for her.
"Sir," Seok-chan started looking at Sergeant Kim.
"Oh, it's the hot girl." Seo-jun chuckled scanning Ji-a up and down, but stopped once Sergeant Kim glared at him.
"What is this? Are you sick?" He turned to face her as the soldiers let go of her arms.
"No, I'm a monster." She spoke before Seok-chan had the chance to answer.
"What are you saying?" Sergeant Kim walked up to her and lifted her small hands in his large ones seeing that there were no cuts.
"I'm infected. You can't quarantine me because the shack was burned, so just let me go." She replied, removing her hands from his.
"You can't go! You'll be a danger to other survivors!" Sergeant Kim yelled.
"I won't hurt anyone unless they hurt me first." She replied calmly her hands shaking as she balled them into fists.
"But you are scared." He pressed noticing her body shaking. The other soldiers were silent as they watched the two interact once again.
They knew that Sergeant Kim felt something for the girl because he had let her off even after saw was rude to him when he accused her of being infected and he had never done that before. Hell, the other soldiers were scared of him more than Sergeant Tak but Ji-a just didn't care.
"You haven't turned yet, have you?" Sergeant Kim took a step closer, crossing his arms.
Kang Ji-a looked at him unable to answer as she took a deep breath. Sergeant Kim knew that she turned but she was back in human form.
"Just let me go." She said her voice shaking.
"We can't. I'm guessing the others already know." He turned to look at Seok-chan who nodded.
"Then guess I'll have to kill you. You know monsters are a threat." Sergeant Kim looked the girl in the eyes and for the first time they met, he saw fear in her eyes.
"You are a threat, Kang Ji-a."
