𝗪𝗔𝗦 it normal for a person to look differently after they've died? Rhaegar thought they would simply look asleep. At peace. But then his father died. And he was in the room when the last breath left his lungs. He had been let into the room where the Silent Sisters prepared his body. He stared at his rotten face. Looking for the lines and wrinkles he knew as a boy. He couldn't find them in the face twisted in agony.
When his son died... He also stayed with the Silent Sisters. They allowed him in. His firstborn. His sweet son. It was worse than seeing his lifeless father. Rhaegar fought the urge to cradle the body in his arms. Was it sick that he wished to embrace him one last time? He could hear his wife's cries from behind the closed doors, waiting for him in the corridor.
The prince's eyes could not avert from the body. Was it wiser to look and remember or turn and forget? Rhaegar was glued in one place, until he heard his brother talking to his wife. The doors opened and if the Stranger had a body he would look like Aegon did now.
"I cannot do this alone."
Rhaegar did not look at him. "I-" His throat was tight. "You were chosen by the Gods." The reply was bitter.
"I need my brother." Aegon whispered.
Sick.
Rhaegar closed his eyes, squeezing them shut.
