For the longest time, I questioned myself. I don't exactly know what about myself I've questioned. My ability to protect those I love? The deservedness of my abilities? My humanity? Heh, while I have a human body, I sometimes wonder if I even have the right to be called human.
I still remember that day vividly. Stumbling upon that small piece of rock, when my scent picked it up and noticed how different it felt.
When I touched it, so many new things flowed into me. I remember my mind growing, how I suddenly felt emotion for the first time. I felt this weird voice grow in the back of my head. Of course, I couldn't decipher anything the voice said.
I remember opening my eyes for the first time. I saw colors that had never before been seen in my eyes. Even though it was blades of grass and some trees, it was the first time I cried. It is my most treasured memory, that first sight of the forest I was in. Having all of these new colors to find and look at.
While still somewhat sharp, I noticed I lost most of my scent, and my hearing couldn't pick up as much as it used to. But I was okay with losing some of that to see all new colors.
I tried making a sound, but the only thing I managed to get out was a little squeak. I coughed a lot as my throat hurt really bad after trying that.
I remember looking down and seeing my new body. Instead of my paws, I had hands, similar to what the humans on the other side of the glass had. I winced at seeing how light the color of my skin looked compared to my fur.
It was weird, and I never thought how much my life would change upon touching that rock.

'Kuso! Where could they be!'
Maya was shuffling around a small storage room full of papers and documents.
With the upcoming culture festival next month, the student council members started planning and organizing its events and exhibits.
A few minutes before, her best friend, and treasurer of the student council, Grace remembered an important assignment she forgot about. As the treasurer, her role was to review budgets and propose plans to raise money for the festival. But she forgot said documents, and even worse, she had to review them and have a plan done by the end of the school day.
So, after a few minutes of begging and promising to pay her back (and, of course, using the consistently effective "Puppy-Eyes Technique.") Maya agreed to grab the documents for her to work on.
Now, here she was, looking for the documents with no success. The girl started to panic, as if she didn't find them soon, she would be late for class.
She checked the small back corner of the room, there she finally noticed a messy pile of documents that looked familiar to her. She grabbed and skimmed through the first few pages.
'This is the one.'
After confirming she had the correct documents, Maya stepped out and locked the storage room. She ran as quickly as she could through the hallway, trying not to drop the papers. Dodging random students walking through the hallways, she turns a corner and-
*Thud!*
Maya closes her eyes as she crashes into someone. The force making her wince and stumble back a couple feet.
"Ah! Itai..." Maya covers her face as she feels it sting in pain.
She hears groaning in front of her, opening her eyes, she sees a fellow student groaning as he laid on the ground, clutching his chest.
