Chapter 3
I silently followed behind Severus. The hallways of the castle had remained the same with the exception of new paintings here and there.
By now it was the afternoon and by the looks of it, students where already in their classes. Very few lingered in the halls when they saw Severus approaching.
His unpleasantness radiated off of him. He was nothing like who I knew before.
I caught up to Severus so I could walk besides him, maybe have a conversation. I wanted to understand him and the situation more.
His reaction to me returning was uncharacteristic. His expressionless face taunted me.
I couldn't take his scornful words no longer. I decided to take the leap and start a conversation. I grabbed his arm in hopes of gaining his attention, "Severus-".
The short second I had my hand on him showed me a glimpse of a memory. One that I could only surmise as his. It showed Severus thrashing around in a dark room. Screaming, crying, yelling out something I couldn't recognize. His whole self was a mess, as if he hadn't slept in days.
What I had seen had haunted me. My eyes widened. Severus had yanked his arm away.
"Do not ever grab me again, you hear? I am not the boy you once knew. I am a man now of different colors".
"Severus, im sorry. I only mean to rekindle what I thought was friendship" I trembled. His dark demeanor looked over me and honestly frightened me.
I tried searching his eyes as he stared blankly into mine.
"You will address me as Professor Snape. I am the head of Slytherin and the defense against the dark arts professor" he sneered. Severus' words laid thick with venom.
How could her harbor so much hate for me when all I've tried to do was reconnect with him.
I felt my whole self being shrivel back into myself, the hairs on my arms raised, "Right...I do apologize professor. I'm just so used to calling you Severus. It's how I've always addressed you since childhood" I mumbled.
He sighed, "Nevermind that. It was a lifetime ago. Now keep up, we're almost to the dungeons". Severus sped up his pace leaving me in his trail.
"It was only just yesterday for me" I muttered. We walked down the spiral stair case down to the dungeon. I traced my hand along the cobblestone wall.
