"Dad?" A small girl watched as her father. He was pacing, thinking of what to do. "Not right now." The man dismissed his daughter. She gave a small nod. Not really surprised at his response. So she sat and watched. She did this often. Her father paced a lot.

"Sweetie?" A tall woman walked into the room. The fire lighting her in such a way in made her look like she was from out of this world. "He is here." She looked scared for her husband. She glanced down at the girl on the floor. The girl was in her own little world at that point. "Y/n? Be a dear and go start dinner. Oh and go make sure your brother is a wake to help."

The eight year old nodded and left. She walked down the hall to a small closest. When she opened the door she was greeted by the crowded to bed space. "Adam? It's time to get up." Adam, a sickly boy crawled out from under the covers. He was about two years younger but still didn't talk much.

He pointed to his stomach and frowned. "We should be getting dinner tonight. Don't worry, even if I don't you will." Y/n smiled at her brother, trying to cheer him up. Adam may have been young, but he understood their situation. Even if his sister never said.

Their parents would never love them enough to give them enough food to survive. The boy was angry at his parents. They would kill the two of them by the time they hit their teenage years. "Not fair."

"I know, but one day I'll take you with me and we will travel the world!" She held out her pinky. "I pinky promise." The boy smiled and took hers. "promise."

"Come on lets start dinner!" She grabbed her younger brothers hand as they walk. The kitchen was dimly lit by the candles in the house. They quietly played as the cooked. Their parents would never have to know. So they would never be in trouble. Their parents can't hurt them if they don't have a reason to.

As they played, they could hear people in the living room and eventually a door opening and after a couple seconds shutting. The children gave each other a look. No one ever came here. This can't be good. The were thuds coming from outside.

"Y/n! Get in here now!" The young girl looked over to her brother, scared. This can't be good. They weren't being loud, were they? "Coming Mama!" Adam grabbed her hand as they went back to the living room.

"Y/n, I need you to hid this." Their mother rushed into the hallway. Her once neat hair was now messed up. Tears stained her face. A scream shattered the still air. "Be useful just this once and run. Die for it if you have to." She gave the girl a golden necklace. In the center sat a black stone.

"Mama?" The girl looked at the necklace then back to her mom. Confused. Adam tugged on her arm to go. "Run. Now."

As her mother turned around, a dagger sank into her chest. A skeleton with blood dripping off its bones walked through the door way. He had the reddest eyes of any creature. "Well hello little ones."

Without even thinking, Y/n took off with her brother. Adam was stumbling to keep up. When they reached outside, they were meet by a tall man and a down pour of rain.

He, like the skeleton, had red eyes. "We don't want to harm you." He had a strangely human voice. He knew that the children were as good as dead now. The only thing keeping them alive is his ability to fight himself, interally.

"Wha- What about mama and p-papa?" The girl pulled her brother behind her. She may have just become an orphan. But she would not lose her brother. Despite the tears running down her face, she wanted to seem strong. If the man like creature in front of them believed her. He would leave them alone.

"Sadly your parents got in the way. I spare you if you don't make the same mistake." He walked to the kids. The girl reminded him of his wife when she was young. Always trying to seem strong. Even when crying.
