The Abrams family spent Christmas together, trying to get the most out of their limited time gathered as a family. Because them being together without missing at least one member was a rare occurrence, so now that it was actually happening, they'd promised to enjoy every second of it.
Although, it seemed as though Gracie struggled with that. Her thoughts were all over the place, yet somehow gathered under the same category; Dorothea Bishop.
Usually Gracie didn't mind Dorothea taking up her whole train of thoughts, but as she sat in the living room on Christmas Eve, the thoughts weren't as pleasant and magical as they usually were.
She should've told Dorothea about The Era's Tour before she posted about, she knew that. And she'd wanted to, she'd definitely wanted to. But Dorothea seemed to hate her with every ounce of her being, and Gracie understood that. But despite having some sort of understanding about the situation and the other girl's feelings, Gracie still hated every minute she spent without Dorothea.
She too would've been pissed off if Dorothea suddenly started dated some random dude out of the blue, after they'd shared several kisses over the last couple of weeks. But Dorothea didn't get it. She didn't know what was happening behind the scenes. What social media didn't get to see.
Gracie had to date Callum, she hadn't had a choice.
"Gracie?" The voice of her mother broke her out of her head. "Are you okay, hunny? You seem a little distant."
The Abrams girl nodded and she sent her mom a small smile, hoping it'd make her believe what she was saying. Make her believe that she was, indeed, okay, even though that wasn't a hundred percent the truth.
In reality all she wanted to do was sob in her mom's arms and spill everything. But she couldn't do that, because these were her own struggles and she shouldn't burden anyone with them — especially not her sweet, sweet mom.
Dorothea sat in the warmth of her childhood bedroom and sobbed into her hands. Everything had been so complicated and her mind had been so loud. She just wanted things to go back to the way they used to be. Back when Gracie and her were friends and nothing more, and back when there was no Callum and no picture of him and Gracie kissing to mock her every time she closed her eyes.
Leonora and the rest of the Bishop family was downstairs, probably eating all the leftovers for, Christmas Eve. They'd opened present that morning and Dorothea had excused herself for a moment afterwards. She kept thinking about Gracie and it brought tears to her eyes.
She still had Gracie's Christmas present in her drawer back home, having bought it before everything happened, but never gotten the chance to give it to the girl.
As she sat there on the edge of her childhood bed, she wondered what Gracie was doing. She was probably fine. Both happy and healthy and doing good. And she was probably down Callum's stupid throat.
Because Gracie didn't have anything to worry about, Dorothea thought. She wasn't the one who was left in the dark, obliviously running around kissing on their crush only to find out through an Instagram story that she had a whole boyfriend.
Which led Dorothea to wonder if Gracie had cheated on Callum with Dorothea or if they'd gotten together after the girls' last kiss. Dorothea wanted to be Gracie's girlfriend, but being her side chick was a whole different story and it wasn't one she wanted to be a part of.
"You alright, Thea?" Leonora's voice was familiar, and maybe that was exactly what Dorothea needed at that moment. Familiarity. "Is it the whole you-know-who situation?"
"She's not Voldemort, you can say her name." Dorothea mumbled, wiping her teary eyes while refusing to look at her sister. "I just thought something was going to happen, but it was stupid. I'll get it over it, don't worry about me," She shrugged, "I miss her, though."
Leonora wrapped her arms around the fragile girl in front of her and held her tight till she almost turned blue. Dorothea appreciated her sister's efforts. She generally just appreciated Leonora a whole lot — even when she was being the most intolerable and annoying human being to ever walk the earth.
She'd always love that girl, and the feeling was definitely mutual.
Nighttime embraced the Bishop household, and Mr. and Mrs. Bishop were fast asleep in their bedroom. Their oldest child was too in bed, but she had yet to fall asleep.
Dorothea was curled up under her blanket, letting her tears seep into the mattress below her. She'd cried to whole day and she'd barely seen her family, and that fact alone made her cry even harder.
But Leonora Bishop, the youngest of the bunch, was wide awake and definitely not lying in bed. She had a plan and she was determined to go through with it. She couldn't bear to see her sister sad anymore.

Her phone rang shortly after, and she wasn't the least surprised; Olivia never slept, and when she did, it most definitely wasn't at night like most other people.
"Did you kill someone? I'll help you hide the body, where are you?" Olivia started the phone call with whatever that was, but Leonora didn't have time to give it any attention. She had a plan.
"Liv, we need to figure out what's up with Gracie and that guy. I promised Thea I wouldn't tell anyone, but I can't do this alone. So promise me this stays between us, okay?" Olivia had never heard her best friend sound so serious, so she answered immediately, promising that it wouldn't be shared with anyone or anything.
And it was safe to say that Olivia needed a breather after Leonora spilled everything.
"That's insane! What the fuck!" Olivia exclaimed, her hand slammed over her mouth. "Ugh, there's definitely something up, Gracie wouldn't purposely hurt Dorothea like that, I know she wouldn't."
Leonora nodded and used her every brain cell (two or three, if you were to ask Dorothea) to try and figure out what was going on. She too knew that Gracie would never hurt Dorothea, not if she had a choice — and that was exactly why Leonora began this investigation.
And so it happened that Leonora and Olivia began searching for clues and answers about the origin of Gracie Abrams and Callum Dawson's relationship.
And what they found was shocking.
