It was dark outside — just-before-midnight dark. Dorothea was curled up on her couch, scrolling through Netflix on the verge of giving up on finding a movie to watch. Everything seemed boring and uninteresting.
A knock on the door caught her attention, and out of pure instinct, she grabbed the pillow next to her and held it up as if it would help her if there was a murderer on the other side of that door.
"Who's there?!" She yelled, resorting to hiding behind the throw-pillow instead of using it as a weapon. "I have a gun!" No she didn't. "And a baseball bat!" Nope. "I will hurt you if you try anything." She probably wouldn't.
"It's me, it's Gracie."
Dorothea let out a relieved sigh and put the pillow down before shuffling to the door and opening it. She smiled as she saw Gracie's beautiful face, but then she saw tears well in her eyes, and she grew concerned. Gracie had been struggling as of lately, so Dorothea knew how alert she had to be when it came to the girl's emotions.
"Hi, why are you crying? What's wrong, Precious?" Dorothea asked, waving Gracie inside and closing the door behind her.
Gracie didn't answer, but she did wrap her arms around Dorothea and held her in a tight embrace. The hug was long — not that Dorothea minded, not at all. She was just a tad confused, that was all.
When Gracie pulled away, she still didn't feel the need to give Dorothea any explanation whatsoever. Instead, she looked down at her wrist — the left one, with the watch Dorothea knew she'd gotten from her grandma.
Dorothea got no chance to react as Gracie cupped her face and connected their lips in a passionate kiss, full of that one L-word that they both refused to admit was present. The kiss was addictive, so much that Dorothea suddenly felt a very strong dislike for her own body and how needy it was — oxygen could stop being a whiny little bitch and wait for a minute.
Sadly, that wasn't how it worked, and the girls had to pull apart. Dorothea stared at Gracie in a state of shock and confusion. A small, watery smile formed on the singer's face and once again, she teared up.
Gracie took a shaky breath and locked eyes with the beautiful girl in front of her;
"It's officially February tenth."
Gracie and Dorothea had their fun that night, not to get into detail because that would be uncomfortable for all of us. But they did, and they certainly forgot about Callum Dawson — they knew they'd never have to worry about him again.
The next couple of days they were glued together. Their friends were let in on every little detail of the past — from secret rendezvous to fake relationships. Everything was good — they were happy.
And then came April 1st.
Dorothea flew with Gracie to Texas, and stood in the VIP tent, anxiously awaiting her...girlfriends? Gracie's arrival on stage.
"You're down bad for that girl, you know that, right?" Olivia asked, slinging an arm around Dorothea and resting her head on the girl's shoulder. "Are you girlfriends yet? Do you want to be her girlfriend? You love her, don't you? Have you told her? Wait, have y'all fucked? The last time I asked you got all defensive, so I just assumed the answer was yes, but I have a feeling it wasn't. You're glowing in a weird way, you totally got laid!"
Dorothea lent Olivia's rant half an ear, knowing it was utter bullshit anyway.
"I'm just gonna answer this real quick because I'm pretty sure Gracie's about to come on. No we're not girlfriends, yes I want to be her girlfriend, yes you were wrong the last time you asked and yes, I might've gotten laid last night. But that wasn't the first time."
Olivia gasped and slammed a hand over her mouth, "Dorothea Bishop, you dirty girl!" She giggled, "but you skipped a question; do you love her?" She asked, her giddy smile morphing into a face of curiosity and seriousness.
"...I think I do."
That earned a gasp so loud from Olivia, that several people in the VIP tent turned around and looked at the girls. "You love her, that's so cute." Olivia whispered, smiling giddily at her friend. "Tell her." Her voice was stern, and it kind of scared Dorothea.
"I'll do that when it feels right, now shush, we have to watch Gracie!"
Gracie's voice was angelic, enchanting, magical. It felt as though Dorothea was levitating away on a cloud — one equal to cloud 9, just a tad better. She was forever and always proud of that beautiful girl.
When her set was over, Gracie joined her friends in the tent. It took everything in Dorothea not to kiss her right there, right then, but she knew she couldn't, because fans were always looking over at the VIP tent, hoping to catch a glimpse of one of their favourite celebrities.
And so a hug would do — as much as it pained both Gracie and Dorothea.
"It's Taylor!" Gracie screamed, pointing at the blonde singer who just emerged from the colourful sheets, or whatever they were. "It's her! Taylor!" If you didn't know, you'd think that Gracie wasn't one of Taylor's friend and hadn't attended several of her parties and gatherings. But she was and she had. She was just a fangirl on a level of insanity.
Gracie and Dorothea danced around to all of Taylor's beautiful songs, and when the time came for Enchanted, a slow dance unfolded between the two girls.
"Please, don't be in love with someone else, please, don't have somebody waiting on you." Dorothea sang, staring into Gracie's eyes, meaning every word. She couldn't bear seeing Gracie in love with someone else ever again — fake or not. She was hers now, that was how it was.
Gracie cupped Dorothea's face and sent her an asking look. The smallest of nods came from Dorothea, and as Taylor sang the beautiful words of her song, I was enchanted to meet you, the girls' lips met and the music and cheers from the few fans who'd noticed the events of the VIP tent was drowned out.
"I love you, Precious."
"And I love you, my beautiful Dory."
