JAYDEN
As soon as we arrived at school, I turned off the ignition and looked over at her. "Are you sure you want to walk in together today?"
She met my gaze with determination. "I'm sure. It's time. I want us to be able to do what we want without worrying. I want people to know we're really together."
As we stepped out of the car, the whispers started.
"So it's true," someone muttered in disbelief. "I didn't see this coming."
Another voice joined in, "Now that's what I call a power couple."
"What an odd but hot couple," someone else murmured.
Some comments were tinged with envy or jealousy, while others dismissed us as just a show. But as always, my girl walked confidently beside me, her heels clicking with each step as she adjusted her sunglasses. She led me straight to Shaina's locker.
"Hey, lovebirds!" Shaina called out as we approached. Justine released my hand to hug her, and I waved.
"What's up, Knight?" Shaina asked, grinning. "My girl looks so happy and glowing. You've earned a gold star in my book for that." She winked playfully.
Shaina can be a lot, but she's genuinely caring. She loves my girl, so I like her. She even helped me plan our first date with ideas for flowers and a museum visit, and I’m grateful she gave me the chance to treat Justine right. Even her teasing threats are welcome, I thought with a smile.
Lily, who’s more shy but always cheering us on, is such an angel. I’m glad my girl has friends who love her.
"Alright, ladies, I've got to go," I said. "Come here, baby."
Justine stepped closer, and I leaned down as she rose on her toes for a long, passionate kiss. I knew it was her way of marking her territory when I heard some girls gasp angrily.
I pressed a final kiss to her palms before walking off, hearing her and Shaina squeal behind me. Knowing Shaina, she was already teasing Justine silly.
I had philosophy this morning, so I headed straight to class. Most of my teammates were already there, with mischievous looks that told me I was in for it.
"Before anyone starts, watch it," I said with a playful smirk, playing along.
"Guys, our captain's got game," one of them said dramatically. "He bagged the QUEEN of Evergreen herself," Logan proclaimed, sparking cheers. I just sat back, giving them a playful glare.
Ryan added, "On behalf of 97% of the guys here who crushed on her, we're heartbroken," pretending to cry as the boys laughed. Despite myself, I smiled too.
Another chimed in, "Seriously, man, you hit the jackpot. A perfect 10. If you mess this up, I’m swooping in to marry her. But something tells me you're in it for the long haul. Cheers to the power couple!"
