JAYDEN
Oscar's expression shifted to one of confusion mingled with concern as he pondered my suggestion. "So you're saying we need to come up with something to lure her to you?" he asked, seeking clarification. I could sense his unease, but I nodded in response, hoping he would understand my reasoning.
Meanwhile, Lucas remained uncharacteristically silent, his gaze fixed on us. The air was heavy with unspoken tensions, and I knew I had to seize the opportunity to address the unresolved issue between us from a week ago. I regretted venting my frustrations on him, despite my certainty about the situation. It was unfair of me to lash out in that manner, especially towards someone who had always been by my side.
Clearing my throat, I took a deep breath and turned to Lucas. "Lucas, I owe you an apology for my behavior the other day. I'm truly sorry for the way I spoke to you. That was not the right way to repay you for being there for me and helping me sort my problems out."
Lucas remained quiet, lost in his thoughts, but I could tell that he had heard me. He let out a sigh and replied, "It's okay, man. I understand what you're going through. I hold no grudges," reassurance evident in his smile.
Shaking my head, I insisted, "No, I shouldn't have accused you in the first place."
"You were right about Madison's allure, but my constant checking on you both was a show of my support, not an expression of any ulterior motives," Lucas said, trying to alleviate my guilt.
Oscar interjected with a playful tone, "Alright, enough with the solemn atmosphere. So what if you're attracted to the girl? She's single and attractive, but that's not the main issue here. Let's get rid of this tension, it's suffocating me." He mimicked choking himself, which prompted all of us to burst into laughter, easing the heaviness in the room.
"Speaking of Madison, I wanted to talk to you about something, Jayden," Lucas began, wanting to refocus the conversation.
Oscar glanced between the two of us and teased, "Do you need some alone time for this conversation?"
" You might as well move to the other side of the world." Sarcasm laced my words."
"Go ahead, Lucas," I encouraged, turning my attention back to my friend.
Without hesitation, Lucas confessed, "I've decided to pay off her family's debt." His revelation left me wide-eyed, and Oscar fell silent, registering his surprise nonverbally.
"What?" I exclaimed, genuinely taken aback by his announcement.
Lucas explained, "I see it as a form of support for you during your tough times when I couldn't physically be there for you. It's also a gesture of goodwill toward a friend, considering that Madison and I have become friends. But I want to run it by you first to see if you're comfortable with it."
