From the time she was a little girl Judith knew her father was an evil man, from the looks he would give the servants, to the noises she heard from his chamber across the hall. As she grew older and matured those looks turned to her, and she understood. He never wanted her to marry because he didn't want someone to have what was 'his' so he killed every man before the wedding could take place. Late night summoning's to his chambers, whispers in the dark, and the look of fear in her sister's eyes had been enough to make Judith realize that she must find a way to escape her father's clutches. She had given up her faith the moment her father first touched her, so she could not turn to God. Her only hope was to find someone who could protect her and see her free from the life she was forced to live. It was only when their family visited Wessex, for prince Edwards wedding when Judith realized what she was to do. Uthred Ragnarson, a trusted dane as King Alfred said, she would marry him. Her father who was scared of his name itself, would not step close to him.
