"Honey, I'm ho-ome!" I bellow out as I walk inside the house. Lex, my beautiful wife, comes out of the bedroom, looking totally unimpressed. I grin as she approaches me. Lex shakes her head.
"What was up with that bizarre greeting?"
"You didn't like it?" I ask, my fingers ghosting across Lex's lips. A faint smile appears.
"It just wasn't you," Lex replies, putting her hands on my arms, pressing her lower body against mine.
"Noted." I grab Lex's face, kissing her passionately. There it is: Lex's radiant smile. I grin, just holding her close to me for a brief moment.
"How was your day?" Lex asks.
"Great. I have a new client," I answer.
"Great." Lex's fingers graze my beard. She digs it and touches it as much as possible.
"What about you?" I murmur, leaning in and burying my face in her hair.
"I have a wedding and a family reunion lined up in the next two weeks," Lex informs me.
"Cool. Any new development on the project?" I ask, pulling back to look at Lex's face.
"I was just taking a test when you so weirdly interrupted me," Lex says, giving me a Look.
I grin as Lex grabs my hand, leading me into the bathroom, where a pregnancy test is lying on the vanity. Lex suddenly squeezes my hand tightly.
"You look," she says.
"All right." I pick up the test. "What does one line mean?"
"Negative," Lex says. Is it just my imagination or does Lex look a tiny bit...relieved?
"We'll just keep trying," I tell her. Lex nods, throwing the test in the trash and moving to wash her hands. Then I wash mine.
"It'll happen," I say. Lex smiles.
"I hope so."
"Are you worried that you won't be able to get pregnant?' I ask.
"A little bit," Lex replies.
"Don't worry just yet," I say. "We've only been trying for a couple of months." Lex presses close to me and I wrap my arms around her.
"I really wanna make you a father, Steve," she says softly.
"You will, baby." I kiss the top of Lex's head. She moves back.
"What would you like for dinner?"
"What's available?" I ask.
"We could have tacos," Lex suggests. I grin.
"Sounds good."

LexSteve and I have been married for almost six months now. And while things haven't changed drastically, some stuff is a little different.
Like my last name, for example. And the fact that I now share a bank account with Steve. The main thing that I'm still getting used to is, and I know this is a small thing, but wearing my wedding ring.
Sometimes I'll take it off and forget to put it back on. Steve says he has the exact same problem. But you wanna know something? I'll look at Steve's wedding ring and it just makes me love him more. I don't know why.
It's just very attractive to me, seeing that ring on Steve's finger. Maybe it's because I know he's mine. Also we've been trying to get pregnant for a while now.
Steve keeps saying, 'don't worry,' but I do. I worry I won't be able to give him a child. Although I still struggle with the idea of having a baby and I know it'll sorely test Steve and I's relationship, I think it'll be good for both of us.
Steve is so kind and patient and I know he'll be an incredible father. I can only hope to be as good of a parent to that child as Steve will be.

"Any news on the baby front?" Calleigh Duquesne, my good friend, asks me one day when I've stopped by the crime lab. I remember coming down here when..Speed was here. Even though he's been gone nearly two years now, I still find myself searching for him.
"No," I reply.
"Just be patient," Calleigh says. "You'll get your baby."
"I hope so." I rest my elbows on the table, propping my chin in my hands. "I really want to make Steve a father."
"Well, if you can't conceive naturally, " Calleigh says. "There are other options."
"True," I agree. Eric Delko comes in. He smiles when he sees me.
"Lex, it's nice seeing you. It's been a while," Eric says, coming to give me a hug. I smile, hugging him back.
"Hey. Yeah. I've been extra busy with work lately."
"How's Steve?" Eric asks.
"He's good."
"Married life seems to be treating you well." Eric's gaze is direct. I just smile. Eric kinda...likes me. I've never felt that way about him and I didn't even really know until Steve and I's wedding. Why he never said anything, I'll never know.
"It is," I say. Horatio Caine, the leader of the CSI Miami Dade team, comes in, asking Eric about some test. He sees me and offers a smile.
"Lex, it's good to see you. How've you been?"
"Hi, H," I say. "I'm doing well. What about you?"
"Keeping busy," Horatio responds. "How's Steve?"
"He's good. We should all have dinner together soon," I say.
"I'd like that," Horatio says.
"I should go." I tell everyone goodbye and head out. As I reach my car, my stomach flip-flops and I feel slightly queasy. Luckily it passes quickly. I get into the car and head for home.

Steve"Any good news?" My best friend, Dave Torres, asks when he calls.
"No," I reply. "Nothing's happened yet."
"You aren't planting it deep enough!" Dave jokes. I laugh.
"Hey, there's only so far I can go without injuring Lex," I retort good naturedly. Dave laughs.
"Good point. Any other news?"
"No. Lex and I are just keeping busy with work, mostly. What about you?" I ask.
"There might be another wedding coming up," Dave says.
"Really? You and Cass getting that serious?" I ask. Dave started dating this girl, Cassandra, a few weeks after Lex and I's wedding. She seems pretty nice.
"Yeah," Dave says. "We are."
"Cool. Can I tell Lex?"
"Sure. Lex really seemed to like Cass when they met," Dave says.
"She did," I agree. We talk a little more before hanging up. As I set my phone aside, my eyes land on Lex and I's wedding photo. I smile. Some days it's still hard to believe that we're married and doing so well.
I certainly had my doubts, especially with Lex's mental mood all over the place. I know she must have loved my brother a lot. And I know losing him more or less pushed her over the edge, emotionally.
It was touch and go there for the longest time. However since Lex and I have been married, she's been doing really well. I'm proud of her. The only thing lately that seems to be getting her down is not being able to get pregnant. I'm not worried. It'll happen when the time is right.
