Soon night fell and Lyra made it to the ridge with only minor setbacks, which included getting a bit lost or making a wrong turn. She stood at the edge of the ledge as she watched the water slowly rise. The sapphire blue water sparkled under the moonlight as it slowly raised and created an island. She lifted a small bottle which she used as her telescope and watched the island with curiosity hoping to spot her friend. Only as the water stopped rising, she still couldn't find her friend. Suddenly the air became thick and dense as a layer of black fog washed over the shore, covering the beautiful sapphire water. As she watched, the fog began to take the shape of words.
It seems you are more determined than I thought, girl. But to your dismay, I am enjoying this chase which is why I shall continue, don't fret as your friend might stay alive long enough for you to save her. But take too long, and your friend will be considered good as dead.
Lyra gradually lowered her hands as tears pricked her eyes, slowly trailing down her cheeks. She collapsed onto her knees at the thought of her friend being gone forever, or worse dead. Slowly, she stood up and wiped the tears from her face leaving wet smudges. She glared into the night sky with narrowed eyes, glazed by tears.
She shouted angrily into the starry night, "I will find and save my friend, even if its the last thing I do, Chernobog!" she yelled with a balled fist. Lyra turned around and stormed off down the path before pausing and turning back around.
"I will find you Ava and I will return you home," whispered Lyra with a faint smile, she turned around and continued forward, not looking back. wiping the leaking tears off her face leaving smudges of tear stained streaks. She looked up into the starry night and shouted as loud as she could.
"I will find my friend whether it's the last thing i do Chernobog!" She shouted her voice straining as tears threatened to spill again. She whipped around and began walking down the path keeping her head low. Steadily, she turned back around to face the ridge again. She bawled her hands into fist and whispered into the night air.
"Ava, I promise that you will be found and returned home," And without a second glance she turned around and disappeared into the shadows. Her last words echoed across the ridge as the night turned black. The fog on the water shifted one last time.Till we meet again Lyra, till we meet again.
