Contrary to what Logan said, we finish the first three Pirates movies. It's only after the credits start that I look at my phone and read the time. Holy shit, it's almost 2 AM. Where is Dani?
Logan must be thinking the same thing. He turns off the TV and asks out loud, "Where the hell is our sister?"
I shrug. "How am I supposed to know? She probably went home with Colton."
Logan grabs his phone. "Holy shit!" he exclaims seeing the time. "I have to work in 4 hours."
"Four hours isn't nearly enough sleep, Logan," I say.
Logan shakes his head. "I can't skip work. I'll just sleep for as long as I can and then chug some Red Bulls when I wake up."
I slap his arm. "No. One Red Bull is bad enough. Multiple is a terrible idea."
Logan gets up and heads into the kitchen. "I'll be fine, Lizzie. I've done it before. I'll just need to eat this time."
I follow behind Logan. "You did this before and didn't EAT? How are you still alive?"
Logan shrugs as he heads to his room. "I don't know," he answers with a wry chuckle. "But I am. I'll see you after work. And yes, I'll talk to Caden." He smiles before closing his bedroom door.
I stand alone in the hallway for a couple minutes processing my brother's words. He's going to get me that job! He as good as promised. I practically skip into my own room and start getting ready to sleep. I quickly text Dani asking where she is, even though I'm pretty positive she's at Colton's and won't respond. Then I plug in my phone and climb in bed. Hopefully I can get some sleep.
Full sunlight wakes me up. I sit up and blink. Dani's bed is still perfectly made, but that doesn't mean she's still gone. She refuses to leave her bed messy at any time.
I dress in my favorite oversized Anakin Skywalker t-shirt and some grey sweatpants. I skip socks and head to the kitchen. To my surprise, Dani is in the middle of loading the dishwasher. She looks up. "Good afternoon Sleeping Beauty," she says with a smile.
"Wait...AFTERNOON?" I say. I spin around to look at the clock. It says 1:30 PM. Practically the whole day has been wasted. Oh well. "What time did you get in, Dani?" I ask. "Is there any food?"
"9 this morning. And there's waffles in the fridge for you to warm up if you want breakfast food."
I open the fridge and see a plate stacked high waffles. "Yum!" I exclaim, setting the plate on the counter. I grab a clean plate from the cupboard, stack it with four waffles, and shove it into the microwave. While they heat up, I hoist myself up onto the counter opposite, so I can watch the plate turn because I'm a weird human. Dani continues to load the dishwasher.
"How was the movie?" I ask. "What did you see?"
"Five Nights at Freddy's. Colton's choice. It was good, I guess," Dani answers with a grimace and an eye roll. I laugh. Horror and thriller movies aren't Dani's first choice. But she'll watch them with Colton. "How was your night in with the time bomb?" She asks with a sardonic smile.
The microwave beeps and I hop off the counter to grab my food. I refrain from answering until I'm sitting at the table about to eat.
"It was fine actually. We had a heart-to-heart talk and then watched the first three Pirates movies." I stuff a forkful of waffle into my mouth. Half of it misses and spills down my chin. Dani bursts out laughing. I attempt a glare, which wasn't all that threatening with waffle and syrup dripping down my face. Dani comes over and shoves a handful of napkins towards me. I wipe my face and finish chewing the food in my mouth. Then I glare at her. She just laughs again.
"So you spent the evening drooling over Will Turner?" Dani says when she finally stops laughing.
I glare at her yet again. "Very funny, sis. Very funny." But she's right. I was and I am not ashamed. Orlando Bloom is hot.
Dani shrugs. "I don't know. Personally, I think Captain Jack Sparrow is more attractive. But that's just my opinion."
I shake my head. "He's ok but Captain Will Turner in At World's End is where it's at!"
Dani and I may have the same taste in music, but our taste in men is vastly different.
Exhibit A: Colton Blakely Yeah, he's handsome I guess. But he isn't my type at all.Dani shuts the dishwasher before answering. "To you. Not to me." She laughs lightly before I change the conversation.
"Did you see Logan before he left?" I ask. I stuff more waffle into my mouth. Dani is an amazing cook. I could eat her waffles for every meal.
My sister shakes her head. She grabs a towel off the oven handle and starts drying some utensils beside the sink. "No. He was long gone. But he left a huge mess in my clean kitchen."
"Oh yeah. I forgot he had to work at 6:30. Ouch," I say. "Could never be me. the earliest I'll work is 10 AM. No earlier." I take my empty plate to the sink and scrub off the extra syrup. then I quickly wash it and set it on the rack beside the sink.
"Don't you have to work today, Lizzie?" Dani asks.
Shit. I almost forgot. I shoot another glance at the clock. "Yes, I do. Thanks for the reminder. At least I don't have to go in till 3. I have an hour or so."
I work part time at my favorite coffee shop every other day. II really enjoy it, but I would greatly benefit from another job, hence applying at Riverview Grocery. The grocery store is closer to the apartment anyway. And it pays way better.
"Shit," I gasp. "My uniform isn't clean." I run back to my room, and lo and behold, there on my desk chair is my clean uniform.
"Dani you angel!" I yell happily. She's always one step ahead. And I am eternally grateful for that.
"I knew you'd need it. I also saw that you hadn't washed it yourself," my sister calls from the kitchen. "You're welcome."
I dress quickly. I glance at my watch calculating how time I can afford to spend on my hair and makeup. I decide to skip makeup for today and double dutch braid my hair. Then I grab my purse, keys, earbuds, and phone. I sprint through the kitchen and say a hurried goodbye to Dani. Outside the apartment, I put in my earbuds and shuffle my Spotify playlist. Shockingly, the first song to play isn't Taylor Swift, it's Jeremy Renner's Live For Now. I love this song. Not my favorite song ever, but it's still good.
I make it to my job, a coffee shop called Deja Brew. I've been here for almost 3 years and still love it. I don't want to work there the rest of my life, but it's good enough for now.
Hopefully I won't have to be here for much longer. If Logan works his magic, I'll be at Riverview very soon.
