Seungcheol's POV
As I drove away from her apartment building, her response to my question lingered in my mind like an elusive puzzle begging to be solved. The subtle shift in her demeanor, the guarded look in her eyes—it was a reaction I hadn't anticipated, one that left me grappling with unanswered questions.
Parking my car in the underground garage of my apartment building, I couldn't shake off the nagging sense of curiosity that consumed my thoughts. Mingyu's words echoed in my mind, reminding me of the enigmatic woman who had entered my life like a whirlwind of contradictions.
Pulling out my phone, I dialed Mingyu's number, hoping for some semblance of clarity in the midst of uncertainty. As the call connected, Mingyu's cheerful voice greeted me on the other end.
"Cheol! What's up?" Mingyu exclaimed, his enthusiasm palpable even through the phone.
"I need to talk," I replied, my tone more serious than usual.
Mingyu's demeanor shifted, sensing the gravity of my tone. "Sure, what's on your mind?"
"It's about her, Jiyeon" I began, my thoughts drifting back to the woman who had unwittingly captivated my attention. "Do you know anything about her past?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line, "Why do you ask?" Mingyu finally responded, his voice tinged with curiosity.
"It's just... something she said tonight," I hesitated, unsure of how much to divulge. "When I asked her about her past, she seemed... uncomfortable. I can't help but wonder what she's hiding."
Mingyu's response was measured, his words chosen with care. "Cheol, you know I don't pry into people's personal lives. But if it's bothering you that much, maybe you should talk to her directly."
As I replayed the evening's events in my mind, a troubling realization dawned upon me. Why did her reaction to my question about her past unsettle me so deeply? It wasn't just the words she spoke but the way her entire demeanor shifted, as if a veil of secrecy descended upon her.
"Yeah, see you tomorrow," I muttered, ending the call with Mingyu. Despite his reassurances, the unanswered questions continued to gnaw at me, fueling a restless energy that refused to dissipate.
Arriving at my apartment, I was greeted by the familiar silence that had become my companion. The emptiness of the space served as a stark reminder of the charade I had willingly embraced. In the solitude of my surroundings, I found solace, yet beneath the facade of contentment lay a nagging sense of unease.
As I prepared for bed, trading the formal attire for comfortable sweats and a simple tee, I couldn't shake the unsettling realization that the last person on my mind before drifting into slumber was her, Park Jiyeon.
