Zeph's Pov:November 1st 2017.
Dear diary,
Its me Zephyrine Roy or "Zeph" like my friends call me. I clearly lost my old diary so I'd have to start all over again so let's start with Cassidy Coletti, or CC, Cass, or Cassie as she's known to my brother and his friends, why her? maybe because she has been my arch-nemesis since Elementary school. It's ironic that she's also my brother's best friend. Dealing with her constant presence in my life has been a never-ending source of stress.
Physically, she's attractive. We share similar features as brunettes. My hair is a deep, dark brown, almost black, while hers is a slightly lighter shade of dark brown.
We're around the same height - 5'5- but that's where the similarities end. I can't recall a single positive memory with her, only arguments and disagreements since we were kids.
She's always hanging out at my house with my brother and their so-called "popular" friend group. We attend the same high school, but my friend group, consisting of Scarlett and Leena, is vastly different from theirs.
We all live in the small, snowy town of Ravenswood, Canada, where the cold and darkness seem to seep into every aspect of life. The perpetual snow and lack of summer days make it a challenging place to find joy, but I've found solace in skiing.
I've been skiing and snowboarding since I was little, and my parents and I would hit the slopes every day, along with Ben, my brother. After my mom passed away, Dad lost interest in skiing, and things became distant between us. Ben and I grew apart too, but I found comfort in skiing, just like Mom did.
My brother, on the other hand, excels at ice hockey, and his talent has made him popular at school. I don't crave the attention like he does, but somehow I always get the attention most probably because of my mom's legacy. I'm content with my own circle of friends, as long as Scarlett and Leena are by my side. My friend group. We do have quite the reputation but not for any good reasons.
I'm lucky to have two amazing best friends, Scarlett and Leena, who I've known since elementary school. We've grown up together in this small town, and our friendship has been a wild ride.
Leena, who is Korean and Vietnamese, used to be the perfect student, but since hanging out with me, she's developed a bit of a rebellious streak. Her parents aren't thrilled about it, but we have too much fun together to change now. We bond over our love of skiing, snowboarding and causing a chaos at school.
Scarlett, whose dad is Cuban and mom is Canadian, is our resident Spanish expert. She's always teaching us new words and phrases, and I love hearing her switch between languages effortlessly. Despite struggling in some subjects, Scarlett's got a heart of gold, and her parents have been like a second family to me since my mom passed away. They're understanding and supportive, even if they don't always agree with our antics.
