"Mum I am not moving in with you and your 26 year old boyfriend" I shout down the stairs"Yes you are Madeline, I deserve to be happy and have a boyfriend" she shouts back
"This is just like the others, what happened to Ben from last week, or Thomas last month, you're a whore"
My mum starts storming up the stairs and bombs into my room, "how dare you!"
"The guy is 5 years older than me mum its weird"
"So, he's fit and he's mature for his age, never speak to me in that way or I'm kicking you out Madeline" she throws a cardboard box at me, "start packing, the moving van is coming for the bigger things tomorrow"
I roll my eyes as soon as her back is turned, and start folding my clothes, leaving out tomorrow's outfit, making sure it matches my earrings. Don't make fun of me it's my thing. I finish up packing and leave it by the door, ready for the moving van.
After 2 hours of packing I'm exhausted. I look out my window to see that the moving van is already outside.
"Ugh" I groan
I make my way downstairs with a few boxes to hand to the men and wait in the living room while they finish moving everything.
*beep*
I look down at my phone to see that my best friend has messaged me.
Rose
Hi mads, have you moved into the new house yet xoxoMadi
No... nearly tho xoxRose
Let me know when so I can come over to help you decorate oxoxoxMadi
I will. Gtg love you xoxoI switched my phone off and went back to my room to see it completely empty. Bluetack stains where posters once were placed and every makeup and tan stain on the carpets. I wipe away a tear as I walk outside of my childhood home.
"Madeline you're going to have to speak to me at some point you know" my mum starts
"I know mum, but this is a lot to take in" I reply softly
"Look you're going to love Gregg and his house" mum stays clipping the end so that I don't reply
"I'm shocked he has a house" I say under my breathe
Her eyes lock with mine through the mirror and she shakes her head.
The drive is 30 minutes away from my, well old house. So I pop my earbuds in and listen to my favourite girl - Sabrina carpenter.
After a long awkward drive, we finally arrive at Gregg's house.
"I want you on your best behaviour Madeline, no being disrespectful" Mum warns me
"Yes Mum" I answer rolling my eyes.
We walk towards the door and when we do Gregg comes out of his door.
"Welcome ladies, come in, I'll show you to your room after we get settled in. I've made us lunch" Gregg chirped happily
His happy go lucky personality is going to grow old real quick.
He shows us to the kitchen and I sit down at the breakfast bar, having to witness my Mum start a makeout session with Gregg. I cough loudly which makes them stop. My Mum fires me a dirty look and I roll my eyes again. Gregg finishes up with lunch setting the table. Gregg is a slim built man with dirty blonde hair. He doesn't look 26 years old. I'm thinking it's his beard that makes him look older.
We all sit at the table for lunch, in an awkward silence. You could cut the tension with a knife. I try and eat my food quick so I could go up to my room and pretend that none of this is happening, but of course it doesn't end up that way.
"So Madeline, are you in school or what's your plans" Gregg asks me
Mum gives me a look saying be nice, " Yeah, I took a few years out, so I'm applying to University for this year. I'm not too sure on what I want to do yet though" I say giving him eye contact. Mum looks at me approving of my new lovely attitude
"Oh very good, if you need I can help you, you know it wasn't that long ago for me" He laughs
"No shit" I mutter under my breathe
Mum kicks my foot under the table. The woman doesn't miss a trick
"Is it okay if I have a friend come over to help unpack?" I ask Gregg
"Yes of course Madeline, this is as much your house as it is mine" Gregg replies cheerily , " your room is the top floor, so you have your own space, I've tried to make it like a small apartment for you" he smiles
"Thank you" I say shocked, starting to regret giving my mum a hard time over this. I can tell he's trying hard to make this work. I get up and leave thanking Gregg for lunch and text Rose the address and go up to my room.
I walk up the stairs and enter my new bedroom. The room is a decent size. A double bed is in the middle of the room, there's a decent side wardrobe and a chest of drawers. There's a big window where I can see the house next door. I look across the room and there's an ensuite. I think I'll settle in fine here.
I collapsed on the bed when I heard Rose walking up the stairs. She opens my door
"Holy shit, this is class. Also your step dad is fit" She says giggling
"Don't call him that" I hiss at her.
She laughs and starts lifting out stuff from the boxes helping me unpack. She leaves the clothes on my bed knowing that I'm OCD when it comes to my clothes.
There's a knock at my door, " come in" I shout
"It's only me" my mum walks in
"Hey" I say
"I've someone coming in to paint your room tomorrow, so don't be putting anything up on your walls" My mum says
"Thank you" I say standing up, " I'm sorry mum" I say giving her a hug
"It's okay Madeline, I know this is difficult for you" She hugs me back and walks out
"Shock horror, were you a bitch again?" Rose says sarcastically raising her hand to her mouth
"Shut it" I say slapping her leg
