I wanna live

not just survive

My alarm clock started blaring, making me groan in annoyance. I reached out to my bedside table and started looking for my phone with my eyes closed. When I finally turned it off, I looked at the time and saw that it's nine forty-five am. My classes start at eleven am.

Reason why for waking up this early? I have to cook breakfast then get ready. As much as I love my bed, I need to get up and cook breakfast for us. Before we went back to Vancouver Island two days ago, we found this small blackboard and thought I could use that to showcase the menu for the entire week.

I would write down what I would cook so we won't have to worry about what I am going to cook and settle for take out in the end. The moment I opened my door, everyone was scrambling between the bathroom and the bathroom.

Geez, why are they panicking? It's only the first day of classes. "Where is my mascara? Belle where did you put my mascara?"

"I don't know!" I heard Belle answer from somewhere in the house. "Good morning." I nodded, still processing that it is the first day of classes in another city. "What do you guys want for breakfast?" I yelled out.

"Anything!" They yelled out in response, "eggs, bacon and fried rice then." I muttered. I am Filipino, of course I am going to cook rice for them in the morning.

Last night, while the girls were sleeping, I made their lunches so they won't have to worry about it the next day. I even wrote in a sticky note on their Tupperware which belongs to who. I went downstairs to start cooking and it is already ten o'clock.

I took the eggs, bacon and the day-old rice. Luckily, we decided on buying minced garlic instead of the garlic cloves since the minced garlic is much cheaper. I put two spoonfuls of garlic into the pan, listen, you can never have too much garlic.

While the garlic was cooking, I fixed the table while I waited for them to come down. "Something smells good." Camila said while looking over my shoulder.

Teresa went up and smiled at the smell, "ahh, this smells nice." She hugged me then tasted the fried rice, "damn, this is good." They started helping me cook so we would be able eat breakfast early and finish early on time for our class.

Teresa turns out she drives, her car just arrived so we'll be driving to campus instead of walking. I told them to watch the food while I am just gonna take a shower and get ready.

Most of my clothes are mostly grey, black, white, beige and brown. I love those colours the most.

I took out my matching Nike sweats and a hat to match the outfit. My shoes are downstairs but I know I'll be wearing my white high cut converse. I know, it looks like I am a basic white girl but that is my style.

My style is to be comfortable not be uncomfortable, who are you trying to impress?

My hair will just be half clipped while the rest of my hair flows down. I went down with my bag and socks and sat down with the girls. "You look cute, El." I blushed and thanked them. We have at least forty-five minutes left before we go and Teresa is already outside cooling the car.

"Let's go before Teresa leaves us!" Belle yelled, I got my bag with my other stuff and made a beeline outside. Camila stopped me from going outside and took me aside to talk to me. "Are you and Adi okay?" I nodded at her while looking everywhere but her.

She pointedly looked at me then I shrugged my shoulders. "Don't ask me questions like that especially when two people aren't even dating. Me and Adi are just friends. Nothing else." I ended the conversation right there.

Since we got back a week ago, Adi has been coming to our place while I kept telling my friends to tell him a lie. Anything. After the fight with Cid and when we left without telling the guys anything, we were weird.

Everyone noticed the shift but they knew better than to question us. I really don't want to answer any questions about me and Adi. "Speak of the devil." She muttered then I looked behind me.

"We'll go now, we're going to be late." Camila then told the girls to drive but Teresa clearly didn't know what to do until Camila told Teresa to drive. I saw her bend down and whisper something to her then Teresa looked at me.

Adi started to come towards me when he asked if we could talk. Do I really want to? He pushed me away when I was offering him comfort, my shoulders that he can lean on and my ears which will listen to him. Instead, he chose to push me away.

I keep telling myself that I can't blame him for pushing me away but is there any valid reason that he would? "Hi." He nervously said, "Hi, can we please talk? We can get breakfast while we talk."

"Fine, I have to get to class before twelve-thirty."

"Of course, my class starts at that time too."

He opened the door for me and I remember the first time he opened a door for me. The very first time we met was at a restaurant downtown. It felt like it was yesterday when he did this. When we got inside his car, we were quiet until he talked, then I talked over him.

"Go ahead."

"No, you go first." He said but I want him to say something first. "Are we okay, Elena?" I looked at my lap then in front of me, "I don't know, are we?" I asked the question back to him while looking at him seriously.

"You have been ignoring me."

"I'm glad you know." My sassy remark got him looking up and looking at me as if I grew two heads. His mouth lifted for a little bit then cleared his throat to hide his laugh that was brewing. He looked down at his lap again and I reached for his hand. "I was there you know." He confusedly looked at me then I continued, "After the fight with Cid. I wanted to comfort you but you pushed me away. I was ready to listen to you but you pushed me away."

He sighed but he didn't let go of my hand. He turned on his car and drove away into the city to get us some breakfast. "I know, I am good at pushing people away. I just didn't want you to judge me for my past or for what my family has been through let alone what I went through."

I sighed and turned my body towards him not caring that I am not wearing my seat belt. "I am going to give you choices. You either let me in, get to know you or you just don't and we just continue being mysterious to each other."

"I will work on it, I promise." He smiled at me then brought my hand to his lips and kissed it. "No more secrets." I brought his hand that's holding me and kissed it then whispered to it, "promise me." He stopped then kissed my forehead while my lips were still on my hands. "I promise."
