"Alright, Cam, just before we get started, would you like me to explain what's going on during the procedure or not?" Anton asked as he looked down at me.

"Yes, please." I mumbled.

"Alright, so first I'm going to use a little ratcheting tool to help you keep your mouth open during the procedure; it'll just sit between your jaws while I work. Then I'm going to use a little clamp and some rubber to isolate your tooth while I work, alright love?" He said while arranging some tools on a tray that he kept just out of my view.

"So I won't be able to close my mouth?" I asked, looking at Ty.

"Unfortunately not, Cam. The tooth needs to be isolated from bacteria during the procedure. I'm sorry." He said, looking down at me.

I closed my eyes and shuddered, taking a deep breath. "Alright..." I sighed.

"It's going to be okay, Cam." Ty said, trying to comfort me. "Anton won't do anything to harm you; I've known him forever."

Anton nodded in agreement, "I would never hurt you, Cam, I promise. Now, let's get this over with, yeah?"

I nodded.

"Alright, go ahead and open your mouth for me, love, and we'll get started." He said, grabbing a tool from behind him as I opened my mouth.

He placed the tool in my mouth, expanding it until it came into contact with my teeth. He opened the tool a little bit wider, stretching open my jaw.

"Is that alright, Cam? I just need your mouth as open as possible since the cavity is at the back, but if it's too much, I can close a little." Anton said.

I gave a half-hearted thumbs up, and he smiled before continuing the setup.

"Alright, love. Next, I'm going to place a small rubber dam over your tooth to keep it clean. It'll feel a bit strange, but it won't hurt, okay?" Anton said softly, keeping his voice calm and measured to keep me calm.

I gave him another thumbs-up, pretty much the only thing I could do at the moment as Anton grabbed the materials for the dam.

"Alright, Cam, what I'm going to do is place the clamp with the dam attached to it on your tooth to isolate it, then I'll place it on the frame." Anton said. "Nothing to worry about; it may be a little uncomfortable, but you'll be alright, sweets."

He then placed the clamp on my tooth, and he was right; it was not the most comfortable, but it was bearable. He stretched the rubber around the frame until most of it was out of the way and turned to pick up a tool.

"Perfect, that's all set. You're a natural at this, Cam," Anton said with a wink. "Now, the fun part begins."

I gave him a deadpan look before glancing over to Ty and sticking out my hand.

"You're going to be just fine, Cam." Ty said as he grabbed my hand. "I promise."

"Alright, Cam, now I'm just going to drill a little bit to get rid of the decay, super simple. You shouldn't feel any pain, but if you do, raise your hand and I'll stop, alright?" Anton explained, making eye contact with me to make sure I understood.

I nodded hesitantly, taking deep breaths and closing my eyes.

As the drill started, the high-pitched whir filled the room, and I jumped a bit. Anton worked quickly and with precision, pausing occasionally to check on me.

"You're doing amazing, love," Anton said, his voice cutting through the noise. "I'm almost done with the drill."

Despite his calming words, I could feel myself getting more anxious as my breathing picked up again, and I closed my eyes tightly, trying to block out the noise.

Tyler's hand squeezed mine gently.

"Deep breaths, Cam," Tyler said. "You're almost done; you can do this."

After what felt like forever, the drilling finally stopped, and Anton leaned back a little bit.

"I'm all done with the drill, Cam. Now I'm just going to fill it with a filling material and shape it like how your tooth used to be, alright?" Anton said, switching his tools again, which made some noise that made me subtly flinch.

I nodded, and he gave me a smile in return.

"Just a little bit longer, love." He said, as he started to work.

I could feel him working in my mouth and shining the light to cure the filling material that would now be my new tooth.

"Okay, Cam, we're almost done; I just need to use the drill a tiny bit to shape up the filling, so don't be alarmed when you hear it. You're doing fantastic, love. Hang in there." He said encouragingly.

As I listened to the sounds, I absolutely hated it. I could feel the tears forming in my eyes, threatening to fall, but I wouldn't let them. Not yet.

The screeching sound of the drill stopped, and I felt the clamp around my tooth being removed as I opened my eyes.

"Alright, love, we're just going to check your bite really quick, and then you're all done." Anton said with a smile as he removed the tool that was holding my mouth open.

However, his smile quickly changed into a face of concern as he noticed my tears about to fall, and Ty was on alert as well.

"What's wrong, Cam? Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Ty said, standing up. "Anton, I swear if you hurt my sister—"

"Tyler..." Anton said in a warning tone.

"I'm okay," I stuttered. "I'm just a bit overwhelmed, I guess."

"That's perfectly normal, love." Anton said, giving me a warm smile. "You're doing something that makes most people uncomfortable, and you've done amazing. I'm so proud of how you've handled this."

I gave him a watery smile in return, still holding Ty's hand.

"Let's just check your bite, and then you can get out of here. Sound good?" Anton said, and I nodded.

"I'm just going to place this film between your teeth when you bite down just to make sure everything is lining up properly, then you can go home, alright?" Anton explained.

I opened my mouth slightly and bit down on the film, letting Anton check the results.

"Looks perfect, Cam." He said. "You're all done here!"

I let out a shaky breath, relief washing over me as I exited the awful chair and wiped my tears.

"See? I told you Anton wouldn't let anything happen to you," Ty said, his voice soft.

"Thanks, Ty," I whispered, my voice hoarse. "And thank you, Anton," I added, glancing at him.

"It's my pleasure, love," Anton said sincerely. "Now, no chewing on anything hard for the next few hours, alright? And let me know if anything feels off; I'm always available."

I nodded, finally feeling the tension in my body start to dissipate as I walked with Ty, finally leaving the office after what felt like hours.
