"Why do continue to oppose me? You're guardians are dead and you have no hope of escape. Just make this easier on both of us and give me what I want."

Ethovan sat silent, beads of sweat rolled down his temples ignoring the taunting tone of his assailant. Legs crossed sitting on the cold temple floor it took all his concentration to keep up the barrier around himself. He'd been at it for hours since Brix and his men had stormed the temple in search of the key.

"I wouldn't be too quick to boast. You haven't won yet. Even as we speak new guardians are being chosen to replace the ones you killed."

"Then I shall kill them too. It's no mater. We both know you don't have the strength to keep this little shield up for long. Once I get the key not even the guardians will be able to stop me."

Silent Ethovan concentrated on keeping up the forcefield. How could this have happened? He never thought Brix would be able to bypass the temples defenses so easily. Breathing in and out his entire body shook from exhaustion. Magic had never been his forte. Looks like he wouldn't be getting out of this one.

Digging his hands into the pocket of his robes he pulled out the Key. Floating above his hand a bright green sphere showered them in its light.

"So you've decided to give in. That's very smart of you. Hey I might even let you live."

"Sorry I haven't given up quiet yet." Looking up at Brix eyes showered in the keys light all Ethovan saw was darkness. Greed and an unstoppable thirst for power. Who knows what kind of horrible things Brix could do if he got his hands on it.

Ethovan never wanted it to come to this. It was the kind of spell that was only supposed to be used as a last resort. Well no time like the present. Holding the sphere in his hands he concentrated as hard as he could. He only had one shot to get this right.

Sparks flew from his hands engulfing the sphere. Pressure built in his chest. Waves of energy seemed to shake the room and he looked up to find Brix slamming his fist down on the forced field.

"What are you doing" he screamed. "Stop this at once you fool."

Looking down he watched as the glass sphere began to crack piece by piece until it was shattered completely. With a wave of his hand his force field came down and the green shards flew from his hands sending Brix flying backwards hitting the floor on his back with a loud thud. Passing through the walls and the ceiling the green shards dispersed in all directions and out of sight.

In a flash Ethovan found Brix hands wrapped around his neck.

"What did you do? Where is it?" Spittle hit Ethovan's face as Brix shook in rage.

"It's gone forever out of you're reach. Scattered throughout multiple dimensions. The guardians are the only ones who can retrieve them."

"Floor the guardians are dead!"

"The old ones are. But whenever a guardian dies a new one takes their place. Who ever the new guardians are I doubt they'll ever help you. You've lost"

Ethovan died laughing
