Drama!!
I think I got this update out earlier this time so I am happy about that! loved this chapter and it was much easier to write for some reason, probably because it is character heavy instead of plot heavy. plot gives me stress haha.
Hope you like it,PS: I rewatched the movie and I do realise that Blair's personality is really very different in this fic, I just rolled with my own ideas it seems. Hope it does not bother any of you. <3
------------------------------------
There they went. The company of a hundred soldiers that were stationed nearby the castle in a military fortress marched their way out of the gates and over the sandy paths towards Valant.
It was still early in the morning and Ashlyn and her sisters had just finished breakfast when she stopped to look at the soldiers through one of the large windows.
King Randolph had organised the mission late last night with his council and they were set to arrive in the Dukedom in two days' time. Once there, they were instructed to calm down any further riots. First by ordering the civilians to stop, and if they did not listen the soldiers had the authority to capture and arrest all resisting citizens.
Ashlyn was thankful that her father had not given the order to harm any of them, she would not be able to look him in the eyes if he had, though she was sure some of the councilmembers might not have been so "lenient".
Ashlyn was on her way to meet with the council now. She and Blair would ask for their input and advice on how to handle the situation in Valant as per the King's instructions.
King Randolph himself would not be present as last night's events and his planning until the late hours of the night left him exhausted. This meant that Ashlyn would have to be her best and most proper self as she spoke with her father's advisors for the first time ever without him present.
In order to present herself in and elegant and sophisticated manner Ashlyn wore one of her most beautiful dresses. Off the shoulder with a straight neckline, long sleeves that hung like drapes to the ground and a wide layered skirt made of heavy purple and gold fabrics. The entire thing was incrusted with jewels and gems and was the picture of opulence and royalty that she wished to represent. Her brown flowing hair was pinned back in a sleek style that worked well with the Crown Princess tiara resting on her head. A beautiful thing made of silver and diamonds. It featured a band and on top of that two wreaths of leaves with a large rectangular diamond in the centre.
Perhaps all this was not necessary as she was meeting with people that worked for her father, but these were not just any people. They were powerful nobles and had a lot of influence within high society. One wrong move and public opinion of her could shift in a less than favourable direction.
So, Ashlyn put in all the effort she could to look like a dependable and competent Princess, even if she did not feel like it herself quite yet.
Blair seemed to at least share her sentiment a little bit as Ashlyn saw her younger sister waiting for her by the council room entrance in a beautiful dress of her own.
The young woman wore a red floor length gown with a dark velvet bodice, puffed sleeves down to her elbows and a skirt that was simple in shape but intricate in decoration as hundreds of small hand beaded roses littered the fabric. Blair too wore her tiara, a silver band with diamonds in a wave-like configuration that she had integrated into the braid that circled her head.
"You okay?" Blair asked calmly as Ashlyn reached her side.
"Of course. I have no reason to be nervous. It is not like these people could ruin my ascension if I am not careful." The older Princess replied softly.
