I was sitting on my bed, just talking to a friend on the phone. "Yeah, I know, it's just bizarre." I said. "Just a few doors down, Ms. Laura was found dead. Torn limb from limb!" I shouted. "Makes me terrified to leave my apartment," I said as I rubbed my forehead with my hand. I glanced over at my desk. "Crap, I have some assignments to catch up on, talk later." I ended the call on my cellphone and threw it gently onto my bed. "I'm not going to be sleeping tonight.." I told myself, not really knowing whether it was because I would be pulling an all nighter on schoolwork or because someone was brutally ripped apart next door. I slumped out of bed and plopped into my uncomfortable ass chair, glaring at the papers on my desk. I made a face of disgust as I grabbed a pencil.
Hours later, I leaned back in my chair, my eyelids barely keeping themselves apart. "So damn tired..." I mumbled. I stood up, my legs wobbling like jelly. I stumbled my way to the kitchen and began looking for a snack. I rummaged for a few moments and found a packet of microwave popcorn. I sighed. "Oh well." I popped it into the microwave and changed the setting to "popcorn". I fell face down onto my couch, tired out of my mind.
I could hear the kernels popping in the microwave being slowly drowned out by how sleepy I was. I'm woken up by the sound of the microwave beeping. I sat up, groggy. I slowly pulled myself off of the couch and walked to the microwave. I yanked open the door and grabbed the packet of blazing hot popcorn. Not my brightest idea, because it burned my hand. "Ow! Jeez!" I shouted, dropping it onto the counter. I grumbled, now a bit more woken up than earlier. The clock on the microwave has reset, and I saw it was 1 AM. I threw my head back and groaned, walking over to run my hand under some cool water. "Damn popcorn." I said angrily, knowing it was fully my fault anyway.
Once my fingers felt better, I could see they were starting to blister slightly. I stared at my hand, disappointed. I sat on the counter waiting to the bag to cool down with my arms crossed, grumpy. A few minutes later, I cautiously picked up the bag by the corners, and teared it open. I smiled as warm, buttery, steam hit my face. I set the bag down again and pulled a bowl out of a cabinet. I set it on the counter with a quiet clink. I poured the popcorn into a bowl and began munching away. Around halfway through eating my snack, I hear a noise in the hallway.
I quickly put down my bowl and carefully walked around the corner, peering into the hallway. I saw nothing in the darkness. The light from the kitchen vaguely lit the hallway, but there wasn't anything to see. I squinted at the darkness in suspicion, then go back to eating my popcorn. I hear another noise. I put down my bowl again and quickly scanned the hallway, uneasy. "Hm." I slowly leaned back, wondering if the noise would happen again. A thump comes from the hallway.
I quickly peer around one last time and see a pair of bright eyes, almost glowing, in the hallway. I jolted backward, almost tripping. The eyes stepped forward, showing me that they belong to a body. A tall, entirely pitch black, body. I flinched backwards again, actually tripping this time. I fall on my ass, looking up at the figure. They tilted their head, looking at me. I noticed they also had... white hair? And their skin didn't even look like skin. It was like... void. They crouched down in front of me, staring intensely. I opened my mouth to say something,
