We walked only a few minutes before Lance started to complain.
"C'mon football star. You're supposed to be fitter than me."
"My feet hurt!"
I laughed. "You know, if you keep this up, I'll swear you are a girl in a guy's disguise."
"Oh my, gosh! I think I broke a nail!" He said in a very high voice, mocking a girl, or, well, trying to at least.
"That's the worst girl voice I have ever heard!" I doubled over laughing, almost dropping my camera. He glared at me, but that only made me laugh harder. Pretty soon I couldn't breath and was on the ground. After a few minutes, my stomach was starting to hurt so I tried to sober up.
"Done yet?" Lance demanded. I nodded, but was still chuckling. We continued our little hike. I caught sight of a bird about to take flight. I snapped the photo just when it took off. I looked at it and smiled.
I saw a pretty purple flower by the trail and snapped a photo. I would edit it so the background was black and white while the flower would be purple still.
We recommenced our walk and I spotted a stream ahead. Although my legs were hurting, I ran towards it. I made Lance get on the bridge and look away from the sun. He honestly looked like a male model. I showed him the pictures of him and had him choose which one he like the most.
By the time we got to the top, my legs were screaming in dolor. I sat down and looked at the view. Lance sat beside me and we both drank our water in silence.
"It's pretty." I nodded my head in agreement. We continued to sit in silence. Our breaths were long and noisy. My legs were sweating a lot and I was so excited to go and take a warm shower when I get home.
"Do you hear that?" I shook my head. We quieted our breathing and listened again. I heard a rumbling, like thunder, very faintly. I smiled.
Two Words.
Water
Fricking
Fall
Well, that was three. So, sue me.
I giggled and bounced onto my feet. I dragged Lance up onto his feet. I raced him, and totally won, towards the waterfall. I looked at the beautiful sight before me in complete and utter confoundment.
"I'll take a picture of you." I looked over at Lance and shook my head.
"No no no. I'm the photographer. I'll take the picture." I went to grab my camera from him, but he lifted it above his head.
"C'mon! Just one?" I sighed in defeat and nodded my head before, hesitantly, making my way over to the waterfall. I looked at him and had a great idea. I gave Lance a look that I hope said 'get ready." I took in a big breath before diving into the pool. I heard a faint click before I hit the water's surface. It was like in slow motion. I felt the water touch my hands first before it slowly made it's way to my head and, finally, to my toes. The water was inclement and it reinvigorated me.
I slowly turned so that when I hit the bottom of the pool, my feet pushed off so I could make it up to the surface. I pushed forward with my hands and kicked my feet so that I would break the surface quicker. Finally, I was able to, and gulped a big wad of air. I smiled at Lance.
"Did you get it?" He looked at me in awe.
"Like hell I got it!" I rolled my eyes. He helped me out of the water and gave me his jacket so I could warm up. I scrolled through pictures until I landed on them. I gasped. These, by far, were the best pictures I have ever seen. The first one I was in the air and almost in the water. The next one, my head had hit the surface and water was splashing everywhere. In last one, I broke through the surface and was swinging my head back to get my wet hair out of my face.
"Wow, Lance these are awesome!" I hugged him. I watched as he ran towards the pool and flipped before landing in the water in a cannon ball style. I snapped the picture right as he landed in the water. It looked like he was sitting on the surface while making a weird face. I put the camera down and joined him in the water. I landed close to him. He turned and I splashed him in the face.
"We're gonna play that game, huh?" I watched as he took a deep breath before submerging underneath the water. I looked around frantically, knowing what he was gonna do. I screamed when his hand latched onto my ankle and he pulled me under. He surfaced and I took the time to tease him by swimming deeper and deeper.
I watched as he turned all around and diving towards the bottom of the pool. I swam upwards and got out of the water quickly. I giggled when I saw him surface looking all panicky.
"Evelyn? Evelyn? Where are you?" I watched as he dove under again. "Evelyn! Where did you go?" He shouted. I couldn't contain my laughter. He turned towards me and glared at me. He swam closer and I kicked mud in his face. He blinked, surprised before screaming at me.
"I'm gonna kill you!" I laughed and ran away. I could hear him getting out of the water.
"You're gonna hafta catch me first!" I singsonged back at him.
I probably didn't really think this through. He was the star football player. He could run fast and far.
It wasn't long before I felt his arms wrap around my waist. We both fell and I squealed. I landed on the bottom and him on the top of me.
"Caught you."
